Trades before deadline
除左Franchise果單之外,仲有Denver Nuggets guard Earl Watson, arguably mentioned in more trade scenarios this season than any other player in the league, is headed back to the team that drafted him.
The Seattle SuperSonics, desperate for a defensive-minded point guard as an alternative to Luke Ridnour, will receive Watson, swingman Bryon Russell and a future second-round pick from Denver in a three-team deal. NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com that the trade has been forwarded to the league office for approval before Thursday's 3 p.m. trading deadline.
The Nuggets, after unsuccessful bids to make a splashier move for Ron Artest and then Steve Francis, will instead import Sonics rebounding specialist Reggie Evans, Portland swingman Ruben Patterson and the Blazers' Charles Smith as a salary-cap throw in.
The Blazers joined in on the Seattle-Denver talks in its ongoing quest for salary-cap relief and receive Nuggets guard Voshon Lenard and Sonics center Vitaly Potapenko. Lenard carries an expiring contract ($3.5 million this season) and Potapenko has only one season left on his deal at $3.7 million in 2006-07. With Patterson due next $7 million next season, Portland saves just over $3 million in salary.
Portland, though, was hoping for much more significant savings before Thursday's deadline by sending center Theo Ratliff and swingman Darius Miles to New York for a Knicks package built around the expiring contract of Penny Hardaway. Denver was likewise interested in the financial relief attached to acquiring Hardaway and was prepared to part with Martin, who's in the second season of a seven-year deal worth $90-plus million. The Knicks were interested in bringing Martin back to the Atlantic Division in spite of the former New Jersey All-Star's slow recovery from offseason knee surgery.
Yet those scenarios evaporated when the Orlando Magic held out for Hardaway's expiring contract in Wednesday's Francis deal. No other trades with the Knicks could provide the financial relief Portland and Denver were seeking.
Watson was drafted No. 40 overall by Seattle in 2001 but has struggled for playing time behind Andre Miller and Earl Boykins in Denver despite signing a five-year, $29 million with the Nuggets in the offseason. He has been mentioned in numerous trade scenarios since becoming eligible to be dealt on Dec. 15.
Denver wants Evans to solidify its injury-plagued frontcourt rotation, with Kenyon Martin, Marcus Camby and Eduardo Najera all in and out of the lineup and Nene lost for the season on opening night to a knee tear. Nuggets coach George Karl, meanwhile, has been pushing hard for Patterson, overlooking the eight-year veteran's stormy history in Portland because he craves Patterson's perimeter defense.

The Nets' motive for the deal was to get under the tax level to sign Tim Thomas if and when the Bulls buy out his contract.

Derek Anderson has been all around the NBA, and now he's headed to Team No. 6: The Miami Heat.
The Heat and Rockets reached agreement Thursday on a deal that includes Anderson, an eight-year veteran guard, and rookie guard Gerald Fitch, and may involve trade exceptions held by the teams. The trade was awaiting league approval, two sources told ESPN.com.
The Rockets had been trying to trade Anderson since acquiring Keith Bogans in a trade with Charlotte. Anderson was averaging 10.8 points in 20 games for the Rockets after missing more than half the season with knee and calf injuries. He averaged double digits in scoring in each of his first eight seasons, his best year coming in 1999-00 when he scored 16.9 points for the Clippers. Anderson also played for Cleveland, San Antonio and Portland.
Fitch appeared in 18 games for the Heat as the third-string point guard behind Jason Williams and Gary Payton. He averaged 4.7 points and 1.8 rebounds. With the Rockets, Fitch will fill the reserve point guard spot formerly held by Moochie Norris, who was traded to the Hornets last week for Maciej Lampe. Cavaliers get Murray:)

The Philadelphia 76ers traded forward Lee Nailon and a 2006 second-round pick to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for a conditional second-round pick in the 2006 NBA draft.

Express-News - The Spurs nearly traded Brent Barry on Thursday afternoon in a multi-team deal that would have netted New Orleans guard J.R. Smith, two NBA sources said.
The deal was close enough to completion — one opposing team executive said he had heard it was done — that Spurs officials initially told Barry he might not need to board the team's charter flight here.
The deal unraveled near the league's 3 p.m. trade deadline, which was an hour before the Spurs were scheduled to depart. After Spurs coach Gregg Popovich told Barry the trade was dead, Barry accompanied the team here

Scott declined to give specifics of the deal that fell apart involving the Spurs, but he said the Hornets had entered discussions about 30 minutes before the deadline and with five minutes left, both teams were in agreement.
“We got it (to the league) five minutes after the clock and it was the league who said, ‘No deal.’” Scott said. “So it was squashed, and everybody in the room was a little disappointed. We were that close to really feeling pretty good about the whole thing.”
