Boss Mancio silences Adriano Friday 21 April, 2006--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inter boss Roberto Mancini has hit back at Adriano’s claims that he was used in the Milan derby despite not being fully fit.
The Brazilian striker caused uproar earlier this week by giving an interview in which he criticised the club and the Coach following a problematic few months at the San Siro.
But Mancini has today looked to set the record straight by insisting that the player himself said that he was ready to appear in Friday’s 1-0 loss.
“I’m disappointed that he said I selected him although he was not fully fit because that is not the case,” Mancio stated on Friday.
“I asked him how he felt after training on Thursday and he said he was fine. I even told him that he had to be sure because if he got injured then his World Cup could have been at risk.
“Yet he continued to tell me that he was at 100 per cent. We had the same conversation after training on Friday.”
Mancini was also asked to comment on the strained relationship between Adriano and Juan Veron after the Brazilian admitted that they hardly speak.
“In a group of 25 players of different nationalities, who all have different minds, it’s clear that there can be two players who don’t go out for dinner with each other every night,” he stated.
“The important thing is that these 25 players concentrate on the one objective which they have in common, which is to take this Inter shirt to the highest possible level.”
Inter’s struggles this term, after their failure in Serie A and the Champions League, has led to speculation that the club are attempting to lure Juventus boss Fabio Capello to Milan.
“I don’t think the club have anything cooking,” he responded when asked about the Capello rumours.
“I’ve looked to offer this club my all. I may have made the odd wrong decision but that’s it.”
Meanwhile, Adriano will not feature against Reggina on Saturday as he is struggling with a thigh muscle problem.
