Empoli ponder Mac swoop
Friday 12 May, 2006--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Middlesbrough striker Massimo Maccarone could be heading back to former club Empoli at the end of this season.
Maccarone has had a tough spell in the Premiership since Boro handed the Tuscan minnows a club record £8m for the Italian striker and a return has been mooted.
The former Under-21 international gem has just a year left on his contract and is keen to not spend another campaign on the bench.
Empoli could turn to their former prodigy as they will probably have to sign a replacement for Francesco Tavano in the summer.
Tavano is wanted by a host of clubs, including Inter, and the Serie A survivors have already admitted that they will cash in on the Fiorentina youth team product.
However, Maccarone seemingly has numerous admirers according to other reports on Friday evening.
Belgian giants Club Brugge have been impressed with Maccarone’s UEFA Cup exploits where he grabbed last-gasp winners against Basel and Steaua Bucharest.
Nevertheless, Maccarone is likely to postpone any decisions on his future until his club name their new Coach.
Current boss Steve McClaren, whose last game in charge was the 4-0 UEFA Cup Final loss to Sevilla on Wednesday, will replace England’s Sven Goran Eriksson after the World Cup. 重返母會:handshake: reborn and back to home
