MICHAEL OWEN has accused Sven Goran Eriksson of sending Wayne Rooney loony.
Owen is the first England star to slam former boss Eriksson.
The crocked Newcastle striker believes Eriksson contributed to Rooney’s red card against Portugal last Saturday by playing him as a lone striker.
Owen said: “You would suggest he’s probably only got angry because of what’s happened in the first hour of that game. It’s a frustrating role to play.
“Wayne Rooney is one of the best strikers in the world and you’re cutting one of his legs off if you’re playing just one up front.”
Owen’s blast comes in an interview with Matt Smith to be shown during ITV1’s World Cup final coverage.

MICHAEL OWEN has never been so critical of an England boss.
Having slaughtered Sven Goran Eriksson for using Wayne Rooney as a lone striker, he has also blasted the decision to take Theo Walcott to the World Cup.
Owen’s ruptured knee ligaments, which meant he had to fly home after three games, left England seriously undermanned in Germany.
Only three forwards remained, — and one of them was 17-year-old Walcott, who did not kick a ball in the competition.
Eriksson left his job insisting he did not regret picking the Arsenal rookie and argued his experience would be vital for future tournaments.
But asked on ITV whether English football had progressed under Eriksson, Owen’s response spoke volumes.
The Newcastle striker said: “I’m not sure whether you can judge it as that really because every four years there’s a tournament — and forget blooding players in this tournament to be good in the next.
