Arsène Wenger has revealed that Philippe Senderos could be ruled out for up to three months.
The Swiss centre back dislocated his shoulder in the World Cup game with South Korea on June 23. It forced him to miss the rest of the tournament and, it could stop him starting the Premiership season for Arsenal.
With Sol Campbell having left the Club, the manager has admitted he may need to bolster his backline as a result.
"We have lost Senderos for the next three months," he said after the goalless draw with Barnet. "Johan Djourou and Gael Clichy have had injuries as well.
Wenger added: "If we find a player who can play centre back, left back then we are still open ."
The World Cup players are due to return to training later this week. In addition to the defensive problems, Freddie Ljungberg is injured.
"Freddie has had an inflammation in his foot," said Wenger. "We have to check it with a scan. We will see."

Arsène Wenger has ruled out any interest in Barcelona striker Javier Saviola but remains open-minded about West Brom defender Curtis Davies if the price is right.
Every summer Arsenal are linked with a telephone directory of names from England and abroad. This year two of the more persistent newspaper suggestions surround Argentinean frontman Saviola and centre back Davies. Speaking after the friendly against Barnet on Saturday, Wenger put the record straight.
“We are not interested in Saviola at all,” he said. “We have enough forward players. We have bought Rosicky. We have also Henry, Reyes, Van Persie, Adebayor, Walcott, Bendtner, Aliadiere, Lupoli. Where do I put the strikers? I have no interest at all
“Curtis Davies I like. I have not made an inquiry or a bid but I like the player.”
The England Under-21 international is hot property and, if media reports are to be believed, could command a fee of £10-12 million. Wenger was asked if he would be making a bid.
