Michael Carrick has today completed his transfer to Manchester United with the agreement of personal terms and passing of a medical.
The midfielder said he will take fond memories from his two seasons at the Lane and credits Martin for improving him as a player, while thanking the fans for the backing they have given him since he made his debut.
"Martin is a great manager and has done an enormous amount for my career," said Michael. "Without any doubt he has helped develop me into a better player. He gave me a chance when I needed it, stood by me and I will always thank him for that."
"I'd like to thank the fans as they've been fantastic to me as well. This is a football decision, a decision not driven by money. It's an offer that has come at the right time for me both professionally and personally and I felt I couldn't turn it down.
"I've had a great time at Spurs and the Club has been brilliant for me. There is an excellent squad full of top players and a number of younger lads coming through the ranks as well. I can only see successful times for the Club in the future."
Manager Martin Jol added: "Michael played nearly all the games for us after coming on in the second half against Charlton the season before last and never looked back. He always gave his best and was a wonderful servant. I'm sure he will do well at Manchester United because he is very talented and we will miss having him around the Lodge."

Carrick not the new Keane says Ferguson
MANCHESTER, England (AFP) - Manchester United's new recruit Michael Carrick is not a direct replacement for Roy Keane, despite inheriting his number 16 shirt, manager Sir Alex Ferguson warned on Wednesday.
At a press conference to officially unveil Carrick, Ferguson revealed he had "considered" making a move for Patrick Vieira, also saying that more new arrivals could follow.
England midfielder Carrick completed his transfer from Tottenham Hotspur on Monday for a fee United chief executive David Gill said totalled 14 million pounds (20.5 million euros), rising to a potential maximum of 18.6 million pounds.
Carrick was just part of a revamp of the United midfield following the acrimonious departure of club legend Keane to Celtic last season, Ferguson said.
"The midfield area was something that we maybe had to bolster," he said. "We kept saying about replacing Roy Keane and that kind of thing -- but you can't get Roy Keanes, we've been trying for five years."
He added: "You could say with Roy Keane you could try and replace him with four players. I think you accept he was one of the best players of all time."
Carrick had his own particular talents, the United boss noted.
"Roy was a possession player, a straightforward A to B passer," he explained. "Whereas Michael is a far more imaginative passer of the ball."
Carrick said he was unconcerned at the continued talk of Keane.
"People are always going to talk. Roy is one of the legends in the game, always will be," Carrick said.
"But I'm my own man and it's not something I've really focused on. I'm focused on my own game and doing the things I do best that's the best way to go for me."
There was no particular pressure in being United's fifth most expensive signing ever, he added.
"I would say I put more pressure on myself to perform than anyone else, so in that respect I don't think it'll be too much of a problem," he said.
"I'm focused on playing as well as I can -- I know what I'm good at and I'm very critical of myself."
Carrick said his decision to leave Spurs after two years was an easy one after Ferguson approached him.
"Once I heard United were involved I wanted to come, simple as that. It's a terrific club and I just wanted to come and improve my game, achieve things and win trophies," he said.
Ferguson said he was "thinking of bringing in" another signing, adding that Vieira had been one of his possible targets.
The France international completed a transfer from crisis-torn Juventus to Inter Milan on Wednesday.
"That (signing Vieira) was something we considered, but I believe he's accepted a really good deal from Inter Milan, so therefore that's it," Ferguson said.
