Tottenham have suffered a big blow after Ledley King was ruled out of the start of the Premiership season.
The Spurs captain has just overcome a broken left foot - which ended his World Cup hopes with England.
Now King looks to have damaged knee cartilage in training - meaning he could be out for some eight weeks, which could rule him out until October.
"Ledley is out with suspected cartilage problems and he could be out for six to eight weeks," confirmed Spurs coach Martin Jol - whose side kick-off their league campaign at Bolton on August 19.
"It is a big blow for us."
Ahead of Sunday's final pre-season clash with Internazionale, Jol confirmed Calum Davenport would feature instead of King.
"Calum Davenport will play in place of Ledley, while Anthony Gardner is fit again and will be on the bench," added Jol.
The news of King's injury will also be a blow for new England coach Steve McClaren - who between now and early October has five games.
