Swaziland hold SA in friendly
South African were held to draw 1-1 by neighbours Swaziland in a friendly encounter in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
Bafana Bafana South Africa conceded a goal inside the first 10 minutes of new coach Carlos Alberto Parreira's first match in charge.
Tony Tsabedze shocked the small crowd at Ellis Park with an easy tap-in to give Swaziland an eighth-minute lead.
South Africa drew level three minutes into the second half through substitute Thembinkosi Fanteni.
The match was billed as a training game, devoid of full international status, allowing Parreira to experiment with locally-based players as he begins building a competitive team for South Africa's hosting of the 2010 World Cup.
Parreira's official debut will come next weekend when South Africa travel to Chad for an African Nations Cup qualifier.
The Brazilian World Cup-winning coach took on the South Africa post in January.

Chad 0-3 South Africa
Carlos Alberto Parreira made a winning start as South Africa coach when the 2010 World Cup hosts beat Chad 3-0 in Saturday's Nations Cup qualifier in Ndjamena.
Bafana Bafana cruised to victory as striker Surprise Moriri headed them in front after 32 minutes before Delron Buckey struck a crucial second in first-half stoppage time.
Any doubts over the outcome ended 14 minutes from time in the hot, dusty Chadian capital when Sibusiso Zuma atoned for several first-half misses by stabbing the ball into the net.
Victory lifted slow starters South Africa to the top of Group Eleven with seven points from three matches.
Congo host Zambia in Brazzaville on Sunday and a two-goal win for the 'Red Devils' would lift them above Bafana Bafana on goals scored.
Parreira, who led his native Brazil to the 1994 World Cup title, promised South Africans victory in central Africa but stressed that beautiful Brazilian-style football would come a distant second to securing maximum points.
So it proved as the visitors adapted well to a hard, bumpy pitch, creating numerous chances while restricting Chad to a few timid efforts that never troubled goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez.
A relaxed Parreira could even afford the luxury of taking off scorers Moriri and Buckley during the second half of a match halted for five minues near the end when a piece of tile struck the assistant referee from Benin.

Reality check for South Africa
Bolivia, 101st in Fifa's world rankings, humbled Parreira's side
Coach Carlos Alberto Parreira and South Africa were brought back down to earth when they lost a friendly 1-0 at home to Bolivia on Wednesday.
The Bolivians, ranked 101st in the world, came to Johannesburg's Ellis Park without an away win since 1996 but Joselito Vaca's deflected strike was enough to end that drought.
Former Brazil coach Parreira chose to start the game with the same side that had played so admirably in beating Chad 3-0 in Saturday's Nations Cup tie in N'Djamena.
On the back of that result, many expected this game to be a walk in the park for Parreira's men.
But Bafana Bafana and their supporters were stunned after just 19 minutes when Vaca's shot deflected off midfielder MacBeth Sibaya into the back of the net.
The goal followed a catalogue of defensive errors as captain Aaron Mokoena fell on his face trying to clear before Sibaya's touch took the ball past goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez.
The 2010 World Cup hosts had much of the play for the rest of the first half, and came close when Surprise Moriri headed Lucas Thwala's cross just over the bar.
Moriri then thought he had scored in first-half injury time, firing home from the edge of the area, but Botswanan referee Tebogo Ramocha had already blown the half time whistle, much to the consternation of the Bafana players.
Parreira made four substitutions at half time, with Benedict Vilakazi later testing Bolivian goalkeeper Sergio Galarza with a couple of long range efforts.
Another substitute, Elrio Van Heerden, was then inches away with a curling shot that shaved the outside of the post.
Siyabonga Nomvethe, one of six South African substitutes on the night, then wasted two more glorious opportunities.
Watched by just 5,000 fans, Parreira has much work to do to make Bafana Bafana a credible force with the World Cup three years away.
South Africa: Rowen Fernandez; Cyril Nzama (Jimmy Tau 65), Lucas Thwala, Aaron Mokoena (Benson Mhlongo), Nasief Morris; MacBeth Sibya, Godfrey Sapula (Thembinkosi Fanteni 79), Steven Pienaar (Benedict Vilakazi 46), Delron Buckley (Elrio van Heerden 46); Surprise Moriri, Sibusiso Zuma (Siyabonga Nomvete 46).

SA, Mauritius in Cosafa final
South Africa and Mauritius will contest the final of Group B of the Cosafa Cup on Sunday.
But both sides needed penalty shoot-outs to get past their opponents in Saturday's semi-finals at Swaziland's Somhlolo stadium.
The 2010 World Cup hosts fielded 10 new caps in their meeting with a full strength Malawi side as coach Carlos Alberto Parreira took the opportunity to look at players on the fringe of elevation to the national squad.
But there were no outstanding individual performances from the young Bafana Bafana players for the Brazilian to enthuse over.
In the end it took the lottery of the shootout for the South Africans to advance to Sunday's final.
They meet Mauritius who were equally uninspiring in edging past Swaziland in another shoot-out after the second goalless draw of the day.
Both semi-finals in front of some 8,000 spectators at the Somhlolo stadium produced little in the way of goalless chances and limited entertainment for the crowd.
Malawi's goalkeeper Simoen Kpauza, only drafted into the squad last week, produced two fine second half stops to deny South African debutants Bennet Chenene and Teko Modise but could not repeat his heroics in the post-match shoot-out.
Malawi had a chance to win the shootout at 4-4 but Joseph Kamwendo hit the upright with his kick and was followed after by a squandered effort from Moses Chavula.
Swaziland looked industrious in the opening quarter hour but were then dragged into a battle of attrition by Mauritius, who packed their defence and flooded the midfield and looked for rare chances on the counter attack.
In the end it was the diminutive goalkeeper Yannick Macoa, in only his second appearance, who proved the hero with a stop from Mzwandile Mamba to see Mauritius through 6-5 on penalties.
Swaziland and Malwsi will play in Sunday's third place play-off match, followed by South Africa's meeting with the Indian Ocean islanders.
The winner joins Group A victors Mozambique and holders Zambia in the semi-finals proper.
Group C is being hosted by Botswana in late July.

South Africa reach Cosafa semis
Coach Carlos Alberto Parreira was all smiles after his experimental South Africa side won a place in the Cosafa Cup semi-finals at the expense of Mauritius on Sunday.
Teko Modise scored both goals in the 2-0 triumph in the Group B final at Swaziland's Somhlolo stadium, the first a penalty and the second a thunderous drive from the edge of the area.
South Africa progressed to the last four of the annual southern African championship with the praises of the Brazilian coach ringing in their ears.
"We achieved exactly what we came for. Firstly we wanted to win the mini tournament and go onto the semi-finals.
"Secondly we wanted to look at as many fringe players as we could. We need to find players for the World Cup in 2010 and I was very happy with what I saw today."
In all, Parreira handed out 14 new caps to fringe players over the weekend's two matches, a penalty shoot-out win over Malawi in Saturday's semi-final and then Sunday's final triumph over Mauritius.
"It's a gradually process but it is really important to see what these young players can do in a competitive game and in a tournament situation," Parreira told BBC Sport.
South Africa had 22 shots at Mauritius' goal to just two for their opponents in a one-sided game but spent much of their possession in slow and measured build ups.
It took 43 minutes and a massive dose of good fortune to finally break down Club M's defence in the 43rd minute when Bruno Ravinah accidentally handled a cross from Modise into the danger zone.
The Namibian referee Arvo Mufeti had no hesitation in awarding the spot kick, which Modise dispatched with aplomb.
His second goal was even better, snapping up a wayward clearance to hammerer home on the full volley from the edge of Mauritius' area in the 65th minute.
Swaziland scored with a similar drive late in the game as substitute Mphile Tsabedze netted an 85th minute in the third place play-off against Malawi.
It was another disappointing showing by a near full strength Malawi side, although their new English coach Stephen Constantine made seven changes from the side narrowly beaten by South Africa in Sunday¿s semi-final.
South Africa join Group A winners Mozambique and defending champions Zambia in the Cosafa Cup semi-finals in September.
The last of the group qualifiers is being played in Botswana in July when Angola take on Lesotho and the hosts play Namibia in the four-nation event.

South Africa complete record win
South Africa posted a record winning margin to stay top of Group Eleven by thrashing Chad 4-0 in Durban on Saturday.
The record score line for the Bafana Bafana came in what was the side's 200th match since returning to international competition 15 years ago.
Nasief Morris scored his first goal for South Africa when he converted a 13-minute penalty, after Sibusiso Zuma was brought down by Chad goalkeeper Mamadou Bouba.
Durban-born striker Zuma then doubled the advantage, volleying low into the corner of the goal on 23 minutes.
Zuma rounded the goalkeeper in the 33rd minute to score his second and South Africa's third.
Elrio van Heerden then dribbled past five opponents before crossing for substitute Siyabonga Nomvete to score from close range to complete the 4-0 rout.
South Africa's new record breaks their previous record-winning score line of 4-1 achieved against three different countries - Namibia, Gabon and Swaziland.
There was also an easy 3-0 win for Zambia over Congo in the other Group Eleven game on Saturday.
Collins Mbesuma capitalised on a poor clearance to put Jacob Mulenga through to score the opening goal of the game.
Gildas Ngo then scored an own goal before Mulenga turned provider for Songwe Chalwe to wrap up the victory for Zambia.
After games in Group Eleven South Africa have 10 points while Zambia leapfrog over Congo into second place with seven points.
Chad remain routed to the bottom of the group without a single point in the campaign so far.

South Africa slip up in Congo
A goalkeeping error by Bundesliga-bound Rowen Fernandez cost South Africa the chance on Sunday to make sure of their place at next year's African Nations Cup finals in Ghana.
Fernandez, who is joining Arminia Bielefeld next month, let a long range short from Jean Vivien Bantimba slip through his fingers as Congo held the 2010 World Cup hosts to a 1-1 draw in their Group 11 qualifier in Pointe Noire.
The result kept up South Africa's three point lead in the group but they still need one more point from their last game at home to second placed Zambia in September to make 100 percent sure of a trip to next January's finals in Ghana.
Zambia suffered a major setback to their hopes of making the finals on Saturday when they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by bottom placed Chad on Saturday.
Congo outplayed South Africa through a first half in which the visitors struggled to come to terms with the artificial pitch in the oil-rich coastal town.
But straight after the break, Congo's defence were caught by a series of quick passes which ended with Sibusiso Zuma easily beating Congo goalkeeper BareMouko.
South Africa, who would have ensured qualification with an away win, let the lead slip when Bantimba's 65th minute shot went straight at Fernandez but the goalkeeper allowed it through his fingers and into the net. It was the first goal conceded by South Africa in the qualifiers.
The draw ended Congo's hopes of qualification for the finals next January.
But Zambia can now go through if they beat South Africa - despite their an unexpected 1-1 draw with lowly Chad in Chililabombwe.
Chad, who had only scored once in their previous four qualifying matches - having conceded 12 - surprisingly took the lead through Kedigul Hillaire with just 13 minutes gone.
Although Zambia upped the tempo after that but for the most part found they were unable to find a way through, not helped by the bumpy pitch that was making passing highly unpredictable.
By half time, the Chipolopolo's strikers in particular looked out of sorts, and the home fans became noticeably frustrated.
But they came out after the break with more conviction, and after 56 minutes Portugal-based striker Collins Mbesuma equalised with a simple tap-in from six yards out.
Zambia then piled on the pressure in search of the winner that would take them losing ground on South Africa at the top, but could not make it count.
At the start of the game, a minute's silence was observed for the 12 fans who were killed in a stampede in the stadium two weeks ago.

Substitute Kris Boyd scored the only goal of the game to give Scotland an unlikely victory at Pittodrie. South Africa dominated the first half but failed to capitalise and fashion a lead despite penning the Scots in for most of the opening period. Scotland improved after the break and Boyd scored with a half-volley after 71 minutes following a superb ball from captain Darren Fletcher. Scotland struggled to create many goalscoring opportunities in a first half which the visitors looked the more likely to break the deadlock. On the half-hour mark, the unmarked Nomvethe missed the best chance of the half when he headed a Carnell cross over the bar from 16 yards. Moments later Nomvethe flashed in a cross-shot which Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon did well to palm away from danger. McFadden fired a free-kick from 25 yards over the bar after 37 minutes as the Scots failed to test the South African goalkeeper. Bafana Bafana substitute Siyabonga Nomvethe, on for Sibusiso Zuma, who missed the best chance of the match when he headed a Bradley Carnell cross over the bar. Scotland looked sharper after the break and substitute Kris Boyd gave the home side the lead after 71 minutes. Fletcher played a ball over the top of the South African defence and Boyd timed his run to perfection before hitting a crisp half-volley into the net. Barry Robson cleared Thembinkosi Fanteni's header off the line to preserve Scotland's slender lead as the visitors failed to restore parity. Stunning qualification for Zambia
Zambia pulled off a shock 3-1 win over South Africa in Cape Town to qualify for the Nations Cup as winners of Group Eleven.
South Africa have also qualified, as results in other groups guaranteed them one of the places reserved for the best runners-up.
The group was decided on the head-to-head record between the two teams, and South Africa had won 1-0 away to Zambia.
Chris Katongo scored a hat-trick, netting in the ninth, 19th and 20th minutes.
Defensive errors from South Africa were factors in all three goals.
On his Bafana Bafana return, Benni McCarthy pulled one back in the 50th minute, and Delron Buckley hit the post a minute later.
But South Africa needed two more goals to finish top of the group, and the outcome is a worry for the 2010 World Cup hosts.
In N'Djamena, Chad needed a 90th minute goal to draw 1-1 with Congo.
Toussaint Mayimbi put Congo ahead after six minutes, with the equaliser coming from Leger Mbaiguidim.
Chad ended the campaign with two draws and four defeats, while Congo's seven points left them four adrift of Zambia and South Africa.

Bafana hold Uruguay

Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira was much happier with the display
South Africa held Uruguay to a 0-0 draw in a friendly at Ellis Park on Wednesday, to make partial amends for their recent defeat by Zambia.
Bafana Bafana scraped in to next year's Nations Cup as one of three best placed runners up, after the surprise 3-1 loss at the weekend.
Zambia have gone through as group winners.
South Africa, featuring four changes from the starting line up at the weekend, were hesitant in the first half, against a team lying forty places above them in the Fifa rankings.
But they improved in the second half, with Steven Pienaar and Benni McCarthy going close.
"I think everyone had stage fright, especially after the loss to Zambia", McCarthy said.
But coach Parreira seemed satisfied with the performance.
"I am fighting for us to play more games like this so that we can get better", he said.
"We are improving. The team has to keep the ball and not rush to score goals".

Zambia to play SA in Cosafa final
Defending champions Zambia qualified for a fourth successive Cosafa Cup final after they beat Mozambique 3-0 in the semi-final on Saturday.
Debutants in the makeshift Zambian side scored all three of the goals with Noah Chivuta, Emmanuel Mayuka and William Njovu hitting the back of the net.
Chivuta created and finished the opening goal in the 35th minute with a strong run through the midfield to give Zambia the lead at the interval.
Mayuka, promoted up from the under-20 side that competed at the World Youth Championships in Canada earlier this year, extended the lead in the 69th minute.
The final goal came with Njovu easing his way through a tired defence.
In the other of the day's semi-finals South Africa ended a four-match winless run by edging Botswana 1-0.
Slightly built midfielder Teko Modise scored the winner off a free kick after 32 minutes.
New cap Bamuza Sono, son of South African football legend Jomo, had a shot cleared off the line before Modise scored his third Cup goal this year.
South African Moeneeb Josephs was the busier goalkeeper in the second half, depriving Botswana several times as they pressed for an equaliser in the closing stages.
The final will be played on 27 October, at a venue yet to be decided.
The match offers 2010 World Cup hosts South Africa a swift chance of revenge after being humiliated 3-1 at home by Zambia last month in an African Nations Cup qualifier.

Second String Italy Defeat South Africa
October 17, 2007
A second string Italian team handed South Africa a 2-0 defeat in an international friendly played in Siena on Wednesday night.
Two late headers from Shakhtar Donetsk forward Cristiano Lucarelli handed the world champions, who gave game time to a number of youngsters and fringe players, a deserved victory after an uninspiring display from Carlos Alberto Parreira’s team.
The Azzurri dominated from the get go and twice hit the woodwork through Cristian Zaccardo and Alberto Gilardino.
It seemed as if a draw was the inevitable result, as South Africa retreated into a defensive mode with captain Aaron Mokoena having a fine match at the back.
But a lapse in defence from a left wing cross that was missed by Gilardino allowed Lucarelli to easily head home from close range in the 82nd minute.
The Ukraine-based striker doubled the lead on 90 minutes, connecting with a right wing cross and heading beyond Rowen Fernandez in the South African goal.

South Africa coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has quit after 16 months in charge of Bafana Bafana.
The Brazilian and leaders of the country's FA announced his resignation at a news conference on Monday.
Parreira, who will return home to be with his ill wife, said:"My family needs me, especially my wife. After 36 years of marriage, Ican't say no."
Joel Santana, currently a coach at Brazilian club Flamengo, is expected to take over from Parreira.
Parreira, 65, had been hired to prepare South Africa for the 2010 World Cup, which the country is hosting.
He put together a young and inexperienced team which suffered aseries of poor results and was eliminated in the first round of theAfrican Cup of Nations in Ghana earlier this year.
South Africa slumped to 71st in the Fifa rankings.
But Parreira's tactics seemed to be paying off when South Africa beat Paraguay 3-0 in a friendly last month.
Parreira's resignation takes effect from 2 May.
He will continue as technical advisor, and his two assistant coaches - Jairo Leal and Pitso Mosimane - will remain.
A weekend Johannesburg newspaper report quoted an unnamed SAFAofficial saying Perreira's wife Leila was battling cancer and not eveniconic former president Nelson Mandela could talk the coach out ofleaving.
