Hargreaves ponders Man Utd switch

"The offer from United is fantastic," Hargreaves, who recently signed a contract extension with Bayern, told German magazine Sport Bild.
"Particularly as an England international, it's of interest and you never know if such an opportunity will arise again," said the 25-year-old.
"Now is the time to take the next step to develop even further."
The midfielder, who has 34 caps, made his England debut against Holland in a friendly at White Hart Lane in August 2001.
Hargreaves was a member of the England squad at the 2002 World Cup and Euro 2004, but was played in a number of different positions and struggled to establish himself in the team.
However, he was in excellent form at the World Cup in Germany, starring in the centre of midfield against Sweden and Portugal, and is set to start for England against Greece in a friendly at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
Hargreaves has spent his entire professional career with Bayern since moving to Germany from Canada as a 16-year-old in 1997.
He made his debut for the German club on 12 August 2000, coming on as a substitute for Carsten Jancker.
The Canadian-born player has won the Bundesliga title four times and was a Champions League winner in 2001.
Hargreaves has been linked with numerous Premiership clubs over recent years, including Arsenal, Tottenham and Middlesbrough.

Bayern Munich will not be listening to offers for midfielder Owen Hargreaves, despite interest from Manchester United.
The England international had expressed an interest in a move to Old Trafford, but it seems he will be seeing out his contract with the Bundesliga champions.
"I have just spoken with (general manager) Uli Hoeness and he is absolutely clear that selling Owen Hargreaves is not an issue," said Bayern press officer Markus Horwick.
"He has recently signed a three-year contract extension and will be fulfilling that deal."
Pressed on whether Bayern may alter their stance should a serious offer be received from Manchester United, Horwick reiterated that Hargreaves is not for sale.
"I think what Mr Hoeness says is enough to end any speculation," he added.
"Owen Hargreaves will be staying with us for the remainder of the four years on his contract."
Hargreaves, who starred at the World Cup, has admitted there was still time before the transfer window closes on August 31 to fill the hole at the base of United's midfield.
On Wednesday, he confirmed in an interview with Sport Bild magazine that United had made an offer which he would struggle to turn down.
"I have certainly played more than 200 games for Bayern and that has been a very important part of my career, but now I have got to take the next step in my development," said the 25-year-old.
"I have more of an affinity with the Premier League now than I ever have before."
Hargreaves, who has previously snubbed the chance to play in England when Tottenham came knocking on his door, is hopeful the Bavarian club will listen to his request to leave.
He added: "The offer from Manchester United is fantastic. Mr Hoeness knows what an opportunity this is for me."
However, after losing Michael Ballack to Chelsea this summer, Bayern are not prepared to let another key midfielder go.
Coach Felix Magath intends to get the best of Hargreaves in a Bayern shirt this season.
"I am not planning to get rid of any players, particularly not Hargreaves - it has never been an issue," he said after training on Wednesday.

The England midfielder is set to be unveiled at Old Trafford after agreeing a dream £13million move.
Hargreaves, 25, got his wish after revealing United manager Alex Ferguson had made him an offer he could not refuse.
And the Canadian-born star pleaded with his club to agree a deal and allow him to move to Old Trafford.
Hargreaves, who starred in last night’s 4-0 win over Greece, said: “The offer from Manchester United is fantastic.
“Particularly as an England player because you never know if such an opportunity will arise again.”
Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich insisted they did not want to lose Hargreaves and initially demanded £17million while United only offered £12m.
But once the player signalled his intentions to leave, the two clubs thrashed out a compromise figure.
Hargreaves is the defensive midfielder Fergie has been searching for.
The United boss switched his attentions to the England star after his World Cup heroics when Hargreaves was the only one of Sven Goran Eriksson’s squad to emerge from the finals with any credit.
