Chelski, ManYoo and Arsenal are understood to have rejected offers to acquire the services of Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano because of doubts over the unusual nature of the deal.
Casting the 'coup of the summer' in an altogether more murky light, it has emerged over the weekend that Tevez and Mascherano were sent to West Ham after it become apparent that the Hammers were the only side willing to accept the unique terms and conditions that accompanied their transfer.
Once MSI, the investment company that owns the players' contracts, had decided to advertise the Argentine duo in the Premiership shop window for a season, a raft of clubs were approached over the summer.
Yet the Premiership's heavyweights, as well as a few lesser lights such as Portsmouth, were unwilling to do business with MSI after being told that they would effectively have no control over players who would then be sold at a moment entirely of MSI's choosing. All the profits would then be recouped by MSI.
