Boss warns of Berbatov threatSpurs striker Dimitar Berbatov faces a race to be fit for the trip to Old Trafford on Saturday, but the former Bayer Leverkusen star has been identified as a threat and one of the buys of the summer by Sir Alex.
Talking to Inside United Magazine, Sir Alex admitted that he was one of the buys of the summer, and that United had had the striker watched.
“Berbatov may prove to be a good signing for Tottenham," he said. "We watched him quite a bit at Leverkusen and he’s a really good player."
The Reds boss believes the Premiership has an abundance of lethal finishers, and has picked out two players to look out for this season.
"Andy Johnson will definitely help Everton,” he said. “He’s a lively bugger, he’s quick and always on the move and he’ll get them a few penalties this season. I reckon he’ll score upwards of 15 for Everton this season and will prove to be a really good signing.
"And I think Wigan will get a bit of joy out of Emile Heskey this season,” he added. “I don’t think he has ever quite realised his potential at Liverpool or Birmingham, but it may be different at a smaller club like Wigan, if he could recover the form he showed at Leicester where he was the main player."

Jol ready for RedsSpurs boss Martin Jol can't wait to get his players back from international duty, and wants to take out the frustration of a poor start to the season on United.
Tottenham travel to Old Trafford on Saturday but, despite adding Dimitar Berbatov, Didier Zokora, Pascal Chimbonda and Steed Malbranque to his squad over the summer, they have taken just three points from nine so far this season with defeats to Everton and Bolton.
"I'm impatient to get the lads back from international duty and get out on the training ground," he said. "We've not had the start to the season we all wanted so we must start to gel.
"I want our fans to know that there's a fierce determination to step up our performances," he said. "We have a squad that I am confident can improve on our performances last season. When I look down the list I can see many options and all the positions are covered by at least two players capable of playing them.
"We have four top strikers up front. Dimitar has opened his account and I know he wants to go on and achieve an impressive tally. He is very creative in the area. Mido, of course, is well known at the Lane - he is a strong target man."
If Jol is to get his side back on track with victory over United, he will have to achieve what Spurs have not done in nearly 17 years - win at Old Trafford. Giuseppe Rossi helped Italy's Under-21s reach the European Championship play-offs with victory over Austria on Tuesday night.
The Azzurrini sealed a narrow 1-0 win over the Austrians courtesy of a goal from Fiorentina midfielder Riccardo Montolivo seven minutes from time.
Rossi, who recently joined Newcastle on a four-month loan deal, impressed early on in the match but tired towards the end, and was replaced by Andrea Lazzari shortly before Montolivo struck his winner with a powerful low drive.
Italy now go into the play-offs in October to qualify for the final tournament in June 2007.
The 19-year-old striker will return to England later this week and join up with his new team-mates at St James Park. He could make his Magpies debut on Saturday as Glenn Roeder's side take on Fulham in the Premiership. 個人認為焦點係carrick既倒戈

Alan Smith is ready to make his long-awaited comeback from injury against Tottenham this weekend.
Just seven months after suffering an horrific broken leg and dislocated ankle, the striker feels he can handle a substitute's role for the visit of Martin Jol's side.
"To come on as a sub would be no problem," he said. "But I think 90 minutes of Premiership football would be very difficult at the moment.
"If you are playing at Old Trafford, you get that adrenaline rush and and that would see you through a sub appearance. But a full game is a different thing."
Smith admits that, other than some fine tuning in the gym to build up his injured leg, all he needs now is minutes on the pitch to recover his match fitness.
He said: "No schedule was put on the number of reserve matches I need before I'm ready.
"I am fine as far as the injury is concerned. I still need more gym work, but I also need matches. But if the Gaffer were to ask me if I'd be ready for the bench against Spurs, I'd say `yes' without hesitation.
“If it is not this weekend then, over the next few weeks, I am hoping to get on the bench. We have the Champions League starting next week against Celtic, and with seven allowed onthe bench, then there might be a chance.”
For Smith to be back in action at all is incredible, given the huge damage his ankle ligaments suffered in February's FA Cup defeat against Liverpool at Anfield.
He added: “I am just plugging away. I had my second 90 minutes at Stockport and I feel better every time.
“My ankle is getting stronger all the time in matches and training. It aches in the last 10 minutes when a bit of fatigue sets in, but that is not unnatural because it is still fixing back together.
“The dislocation of my ankle was the worst part of the injury because all the ligaments have to heal
“I have a plate that supports my leg and takes all the strain off it. So that’s not a problem. It is just building up the ankle. I need to build up my calf muscle as well.
