The Manchester United FC winger Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended for one UEFA club competition match following an incident at SL Benfica on UEFA Champions League Matchday 6.
Appeal
The English side have three days to appeal from Monday, when the reason for the ban will be disclosed. As United have been eliminated from Europe this season, the ban will come into effect next term, should Sir Alex Ferguson's team qualify for a UEFA club competition.

An earlier-than-expected exit from the Champions League last season has inspired a deep-rooted determination within United’s squad to show the Reds can compete with the best teams in Europe.
Sir Alex’s men finished bottom of the group last time around, scoring just three goals in a desperately disappointing European campaign.
Darren Fletcher played in five of the six European matches last season, missing the final hammer blow – a 2-1 defeat to Benfica in December. It was the lowest point of the 2005/06 campaign, but it is being used as a motivational tool for the players, desperate to prove it was a one-off.
“You always look forward to the Champions League,” he tells United Review ahead of the game. “But this season there’s a different attitude. The disappointment of last year means we want to show people we’re good enough in Europe.
"We had so many injuries and suspensions last time, it was a nightmare. And we certainly didn’t show what we’re capable of at all, but we’re determined to rectify that, starting against Celtic.”
The 22-year-old Scottish international is desperate to play in the match at Old Trafford on Wednesday, a game he believes will be like no other European tie
“Both sets of fans will be right up for it,” he said. “It will almost be like a Premiership match, with both teams playing at a high tempo. I imagine it will be like a local Derby as well, which is unusual in the Champions League. But that makes you want to experience it even more. It’s a game I’m really looking forward to.”

Celtic midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura has delivered a damning verdict on his side's Champions League hopes, insisting the Bhoys are not full prepared for their visit to Old Trafford.
The Japanese midfielder says Celtic are yet to reach their full potential so far this season and will be lucky to leave Manchester with a draw on Wednesday evening.
“We need to improve as a team before this game because we’re not playing well enough for the Champions League,” Nakamura told the Scottish Sun.
“The manager has brought in two or three new players and unfortunately we still don’t know each other well enough.
“So far this season, I don’t think we’ve been playing well as a team. Our last game against Aberdeen brought a win, but we didn’t play well.
"For me, we played too many long balls to Hesselink and that’s not good enough for the Champions League.
"We can’t go down to Manchester and attack, attack, attack," he added. "It’s hard to win there so for us it will be vital to defend in this game. Right now, I think a draw would be an important result for us.”

三位主力(Scholes, VDS, Park)上陣成疑
Paul Scholes, Ji-sung Park and Edwin van der Sar all face late fitness tests ahead of the United's opening Champions League clash against Celtic at Old Trafford.
Scholes and Park are both suffering from minor knocks, while van der Sar, who missed training on Tuesday, has a stomach bug.
"Ji picked up an injury against Spurs and has gone for a scan this afternoon," revealed Sir Alex.
"Paul suffered a dead leg in training on Sunday but still managed to do a bit of running to get the circulation going afterwards. I'm hopeful he'll be fit for the game and if he is he'll definitely start.
"Edwin has a stomach upset but I'm hopeful they'll all be okay for Wednesday."
Sir Alex also confirmed that Wayne Rooney will be in the Reds' starting eleven having completed a three-game domestic ban.
"It's very important to get Wayne back playing again," insisted the Reds' boss. "He, like Paul Scholes, hasn't had a lot of football recently and Wayne in particular needs to get back into action.
"He's got great energy and enthusiasm and he'll be keen to do well on Wednesday evening."
United go into their latest European campaign determined to make up for a series of increasingly underwhelming performances since their Champions League triumph in 1999.
After reaching the semi-finals in 2001/02,their exits have come gradually earlier and earlier; from the quarter-finals (2002/03) to the first knockout round (2003/04, 2004/05) to the group stages last season when they finished bottom of their group having managed just two goals in six games.
"Last season's European campaign was a very poor one," acknowledged Sir Alex. "We didn't get anywhere near the level of performance we know we're capable of.
"In the main that was down to the fact that we didn't score many goals. Hopefully that's behind us, I know the players are very eager to make sure last season is forgotten and I'm sure they won't let the fans down this time round."
