Chelsea set to win Ben Haim race
Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce has claimed Chelsea have won the fight to sign Bolton's Tal Ben Haim.
Allardyce was hoping to land the 25-year-old out-of-contract Israel defender, who he brought to the Premiership when he was Trotters boss.
But he believes Ben Haim will now join Chelsea on a Bosman free transfer.
He told his club website: "We have had a long, hard go but I think the lure of the former champions has perhaps just pipped me at the post unfortunately."
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho tried to sign Ben Haim in January and his failure to conclude a proposed £2m deal was cited as one of the main differences behind his alleged rift with owner Roman Abramovich.
Newcastle are now set to consider other options and have been linked with Paris St Germain's David Rozehnal, Marseille's Habib Beye and Liverpool's Sami Hyypia.
