Queens Park Rangers charged with agent rule breaches
QPR have been charged with breaches of seven Football Association rules over third-party ownership and agents.They relate to the signing of Argentine midfielder Alejandro Faurlin in 2009 and a contract extension last October.
Punishment for the club could range from a fine to being docked points, a damaging scenario given that QPR currently sit top of the Championship.
The club has denied the charges and has written to the FA to ask for a formal hearing to determine their nature.
The charges concern the alleged existence of an agreement between QPR and a third party in respect of the Faurlin's economic rights, plus the alleged failure by the club to notify the FA of that agreement before the player was signed for £3.5m from Argentine club Instituto in July 2009.
The west London club is also charged with allegedly using or seeking to pay an unauthorised agent in relation to the player's registration.
It is also alleged QPR, along with club official Gianni Paladini, submitted false documents when the 24-year-old signed an extended contract in October 2010.
A statement on the club website said: "Having co-operated fully with the FA's investigation, QPR and Mr Paladini shall be denying all of the charges and requesting a formal FA hearing to determine them.
"QPR and Mr Paladini are confident that there has been no deliberate wrongdoing involved."
FA regulations on third-party ownership were introduced in 2009 to avoid a repeat of the Carlos Tevez affair, where the Argentine striker was signed by West Ham in 2006 even though he was part-owned by Kia Joorabchian's Media Sports Investments company.
A failure to disclose this broke Premier League rules and the Hammers were fined £5.5m but Sheffield United argued that Tevez, who now plays for Manchester City, helped the east London club avoid relegation at their expense.
The Blades, who dropped down to the Championship, successfully sued West Ham for £20m.
QPR manager Neil Warnock, who was in charge of the Sheffield United at the time, later said about the decision: "Most people thought at the time it was an injustice."

Kasper Schmeichel has expressed his surprise and “great disappointment” after Leeds accepted an offer from npower Championship rivals Leicester for the goalkeeper.
As revealed in today’s T&A, the Elland Road club announced they had reached an agreement with the Foxes for the 24-year-old, who has one year to run on his deal, with manager Simon Grayson suggesting contract negotiations had broken down.
Schmeichel released a statement via Twitter insisting he had not yet signed for any club.
It read: “At the end of the season Leeds United and I both made a commitment to honour the last year of my contract and try to win promotion with Leeds United.
“Therefore it is with great disappointment that I have learned that Leeds United have accepted an offer from Leicester.
“I want to put on record that I have never asked to leave the Leeds United, nor did I reject an offer for a new contract, since one was never put to me.
“I was enjoying being a Leeds United player and was looking forward to winning promotion this season with the club.
“I have spoken to the manager Simon Grayson and he has made it clear to me, that, in spite of having played well for him, this is something he believes is a good deal for Leeds United.
“I have been put in a very difficult situation and will spend some time considering my options for my future.”
Schmeichel has spent only one season at Elland Road after arriving from Notts County last summer, making 40 appearances.
Grayson earlier said: “We feel this is the right deal for the club.
“We spoke to Kasper’s agent at the end of the season about a contract extension and it was apparent that it was going to be difficult to agree a deal.

點解要賣走佢? Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has signed for Leicester City for an undisclosed fee.
The Dane signed a three-year contract with the Foxes on Monday afternoon, after the club accepted an offer from the Foxes for his services.
The 24-year-old made 40 appearances for United last season after joining from Notts County in the summer of 2010.
After accepting the offer, United manager Simon Grayson said the goalkeeping position was an area he was looking to strengthen for the new season.
