Middlesbrough manager Gordon Strachan has parted company with the club following a poor start to the season.Boro were installed as favourites to win promotion before the Championship campaign began after Strachan made some eye-catching signings in the transfer window.
However, they have struggled to find any real consistency with just three wins from their opening 11 games.
A 2-1 defeat at home to Leeds on Saturday extended Boro's winless run to four matches and left them 20th in the standings, just two points above the relegation zone.
Attendances low
With few signs of improvement on the pitch and attendances low, Strachan has stepped down following a meeting with chairman Steve Gibson and chief executive Keith Lamb.
The Scottish tactician only took charge at the Riverside 12 months ago following the sacking of Gareth Southgate, as Boro looked to bounce back to the Premier League.
But the team finished last season in mid-table and at the current time the prospect of a return to the top flight remains a long way off.
Boro will now start the search for Strachan's successor as the club builds towards their next game away to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.
