Barcelona B player Rafinha Alcantara is set to join Celta Vigo on loan, according to reports,as his brother Thiago considers a possible move to Manchester United.
With Thiago still to make up his mind about a potential €18 million move to United, reports had suggested the brothers' father, Mazinho, was looking for Rafinha, 20, to gain experience in England, with Everton a possible destination.
However, the younger Alcantara is now “a step away” from joining his former Barca B coach Luis Enrique at Celta next season, according to widespread reports in Catalonia and Galicia.
Former Brazil international Mazinho played for Vigo between 1996 and 1999, and Rafinha – who, unlike Thiago, plays for Brazil's underage sides - lived in the city until joining Barca’s La Masia academy at the age of 13.
Celta have already signed Andreu Fontas from Barca, and Luis Enrique is now reportedly hoping to move for his former charges Jonathan Dos Santos (still at Barca), Jonathan Soriano, now at Red Bull Salzburg, and Nolito, a Benfica player who spent the second half of last season on loan at Granada.
Meanwhile Mundo Deportivo reports that United remain in the driving seat to sign Thiago, but that new Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola has not given up hope of bringing him to Germany.
The “silence is hermetic” from Thiago’s representatives, the paper said, although it added that the player could make a public statement in the next few days.
