The midfielder has put pen-to-paper on a three-year contract with l'OM after an undisclosed fee was paid to Sochaux.
With the Nigeria international safely in the bag, Marseille are expected to pursue other targets in the transfer market including Real Madrid superstar Luis Figo.
Benoit Pedretti is seemingly heading for French champions Lyon so there looks like being plenty of movement at Stade Velodrome.

The Brazilian international has signed a three-year deal at the BayArena after arriving for an undisclosed fee from Cruzerio.
Bayer have been chasing the former Flamengo ace for some time and have now agreed a deal to take him to Germany.
Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller believes Athirson will prove an attractive signing at the club.

Liverpool midfielder Vladimir Smicer looks set to return to French football by signing a two-year contract with Bordeaux.
According to reports in Czech Republic, the former Lens player will meet with officials from the Stade Chaban-Delmas club next week.
The midfielder is due to have a medical on Monday before finalising the terms of his two-year deal with the club.
The moves comes after Smicer was told he can move on from Anfield following the end of his contract with the Merseyside giants.
The 32-year-old ended his six-year spell with The Reds with an instrumental performance in Liverpool's remarkable UEFA Champions League final win over Milan late last month.
Despite revealing he had interest from Premiership clubs Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic, Smicer is seemingly happy to return to France and continue his career with Les Girondins.
Roma have completed the signing of Shabani Nonda.
The DR Congo international has penned a three-year deal at Estadio Olimpico after seeing out his contract at Monaco.
Nonda has been looking for a new challenge after failing to hold down a regular place in the Monaco side last season.
The former Rennes man had been linked with moves to Juventus and Rangers, but Roma have won the race for his signature.
Nonda was delighted to be making the move to the Italian capital.
"I am happy to join Roma, a great club, an important side with players of international level," Nonda told the club's official website.
"A particular thanks to the Sensi family and the leaders of Roma who believe in my potential and have given me more motivation to come to Roma."

AZ bring in duo
AZ Alkmaar have completed a twin raid on the transfer market by signing Stijn Schaars and Danny Koevermans.
Holland Under-21 international Schaars has been brought in from Vitesse Arnhem, while Koevermans has been signed from Sparta Rotterdam.
Schaars is a highly-rated midfielder and has penned a four-year contract with AZ.
He had one year remaining on his Vitesse deal but has been drafted in by AZ to compensate for the departure of Ajax-bound Olaf Lindenbergh.
Koevermans was the top scorer in the Gouden Gids Divisie last season and played a key role in Sparta securing promotion.
The 26-year-old has cost a transfer fee and has followed Schaars' lead in inking a four-year deal with AZ.
Kyrgiakos set for Gers exit
Greek defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos is set to leave Rangers this summer after just six months at the club.
Reports on Saturday hinted Kyrgiakos could return to Panathinaikos if the finer points of his complicated transfer were not finalised.
The stopper's six-month loan to the Ibrox side has now expired and it had been expected he would seal a £1 million permanent move to the club.
However, Gers chief Martin Bain has confirmed Kyrgiakos will return to Pana unless the Greek outfit recognise certain agreements between the parties.
"I'm disappointed delicate discussions with Panathinaikos have leaked," Bain told the Sunday Herald.
"Our contract discussions in January were extremely lengthy and indicative of certain conditions linked to the contract agreement.
"But unless there is recognition from Panathinaikos, Rangers will have no alternative but to return the player to Greece."
Meanwhile, Rangers are being linked with a shock move for Newcastle midfielder Nicky Butt.
The England international has struggled in his first season on Tyneside and the club are thought to be considering offers for the former Manchester United man

The England Under-21 international almost joined The Black Cats when leaving Huddersfield Town but opted instead for a Premiership switch by heading for Ewood Park.

Rangers have signed out-of-contract Marseille captain Brahim Hemdani on a four-year deal.
The 27-year-old, who can play in central defence or in midfield, was a target for a number of top clubs.
Ibrox chairman David Murray told the Daily Record: ""We're talking about a top-quality player who is committed to the idea of playing for Rangers.
"We've had a huge fight from Bayer Leverkusen and Real Betis but Brahim wants to be part of our club."
Murray went on to reveal that Rangers manager Alex McLeish has been keeping tabs on the tough Algerian-born player for 18 months.
He said: "Alex has been after Brahim ever since watching him captain Marseille against Newcastle in a Uefa Cup tie two seasons ago.
"Marseille went on to make it to the final that season and along with Didier Drogba, Brahim was one of the major reasons for their success."

France midfielder Benoit Pedretti is set to move from Marseille to Lyon.
The 24-year-old only joined Marseille from Sochaux last year, but a fee of around 7 million euros has now been agreed with Lyon.
Pedretti, who has been linked with a number of European clubs in the past, will be Lyon’s first major signing of the summer.
