Portsmouth have presented club record signing Benjani to the media, with the capture from Auxerre looking forward to aiding the club's battle to avoid the drop.
The Zimbabwean has arrived in a £4.1 million deal, which is still subject to a work permit and international clearance, and he was unveiled at the same press conference as new co-owner Alexandre Gaydamak.
Benjani snubbed a move to Marseille in favour of linking up with Harry Redknapp on the South Coast and he admitted his greater grasp of English tipped the balance in Pompey's favour.
"I am very happy to join Portsmouth," he said. "I have been a fan of English football.
"I had a chance to join Marseille, but I prefer to come here as I speak English a little better than French.

Skysports.com can reveal that Portsmouth are locked in talks with Auxerre forward Mwaruwari Benjani.
Portsmouth made a bid for the Zimbabwean international earlier this week...

入主樸茨茅夫的俄羅斯富商基達馬克指出他不會像阿巴莫域治一樣巨額注資球會。
有報道指基達馬克將注資一億英鎊，但他否認此有其事，並指樸茨茅夫將會有一千五百萬鎊予列納護級。
樸茨茅夫己動用410 萬鎊簽入津巴布韋前鋒馬胡亞利，加上較早前簽入的奧利沙迪比，季中己有兩名前鋒加盟。
富商基達馬克收購五成樸茨茅夫股份後，令外間對樸茨茅夫在轉會巿場的動作相當留意，但基達馬克表明他的財力不能夠跟阿巴莫域治相比。
他表明希望樸茨茅夫能夠護級成功。
