Portsmouth have presented club record signing Benjani to the media, with the capture from Auxerre looking forward to aiding the club's battle to avoid the drop.
The Zimbabwean has arrived in a £4.1 million deal, which is still subject to a work permit and international clearance, and he was unveiled at the same press conference as new co-owner Alexandre Gaydamak.
Benjani snubbed a move to Marseille in favour of linking up with Harry Redknapp on the South Coast and he admitted his greater grasp of English tipped the balance in Pompey's favour.
"I am very happy to join Portsmouth," he said. "I have been a fan of English football.
"I had a chance to join Marseille, but I prefer to come here as I speak English a little better than French.
"I am here to score some goals." |
