Milan need to beat Roma and hope Juventus lose at Reggina to take the Scudetto, so Carlo Ancelotti knows there’s only a slender chance of success.
“What are our chances of taking this title? I’d say about one per cent,” sighed the tactician in a Press conference.
“This is the final match of the season and we have the opportunity to end it on a high by amassing 88 points. The only way we can have any hope of the Scudetto is by beating Roma, who have had an excellent campaign.”
Under the new rules introduced this season, the Rossoneri would take the title automatically if they finished on level points with Juve, as they have the upper hand in direct confrontations. In their two meetings this term, Milan picked up a 3-1 win and a 0-0 draw.
“Roma play good football, maintain a high tempo and bring back some important players who missed the Coppa Italia Final midweek, so it will be very difficult for us to get that result.”
Simone Perrotta, Rodrigo Taddei and Philippe Mexes were suspended for that 3-1 defeat to Inter on Thursday, but Cristian Chivu, Sami Kuffour and Alberto Aquilani are injured.
“Francesco Totti may not be 100 per cent fit, but he is always able to create something out of nothing. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he scored a goal today. He is recovering well and I think Italy can finish in the top four in the World Cup this summer, although Kaka will be the star of the tournament.”
Ancelotti also has injury concerns, as Paolo Maldini, Jaap Stam, Andriy Shevchenko, Alessandro Costacurta and Johann Vogel are out, so two youth team players – Lino Marzoratti and Aubameyang – are in the squad for the Roma game.
Milan are one of the clubs named by the Naples public prosecutor in the investigation into alleged irregularities from the 2004-05 season, but Ancelotti is not concerned.
“We have no reason to worry. In general, I am sad, upset and bitter to see what is happening. The situation is still evolving and an investigation is continuing, so we should all wait before making accusations.”

Cesare Prandelli warns Fiorentina cannot take today’s decisive clash with Chievo lightly as the Champions League race reaches its conclusion.
“We want to end this fantastic season by achieving our objective of fourth place,” said the Coach going into the final round of the campaign.
Roma are just two points adrift of the Viola and face a tricky trip to Scudetto-chasing Milan, but a victory at Chievo’s Stadio Bentegodi would mathematically ensure a spot in the Champions League preliminary round for the Tuscan outfit.
“I still have a few doubts over which line-up I’ll use, as not everyone is 100 per cent fit, with Tomas Ujfalusi and Cristian Brocchi particularly out of sorts. I can say we’ll rely on our usual grit and desire for victory. In fact, those elements will go into overdrive.”
It has been a tough few days in the life of Italian football and Fiorentina are one of the clubs named by Naples public prosecutors in the investigation into alleged match fixing.
“I hope that I’ve helped to isolate the players from what has been happening in the Press. We like to focus on the football that is played on the field and nothing else. Chievo are a tough side who have already captured their UEFA Cup place and put Roma under real pressure a fortnight ago with great football. Hopefully, we can celebrate with our fans in Verona.”
The Flying Donkeys will have a say in this race for fourth position, as they held Roma to a spectacular 4-4 draw here two weeks ago and now have the opportunity to trip up Fiorentina as well. Mancini expects Inter exit Saturday 13 May, 2006

Roberto Mancini admits this could be his last game in charge of Inter, as he waits to hear his fate from the club.
“You keep asking me about my future, but I haven’t the foggiest how to answer,” said the Coach in today’s Press conference.
“I don’t know what to expect, so you’d have to ask patron Massimo Moratti. There are only two days left in the season, so we must all have a little more patience before all will be revealed.”
Mancini has won the Italian Super Cup and two editions of the Coppa Italia since taking charge of the Nerazzurri, but there are incessant reports of a deal with Juventus tactician Fabio Capello to replace him next term.
“I have a year left on my contract, but clearly in these situations that doesn’t count for much. I wouldn’t be surprised by anything now, especially as when you read such precise figures bandied about in the newspapers, it means there’s some truth at the centre of it.”
The former Fiorentina and Lazio boss seems to have accepted this experience has come to an end and his statements spelled out a farewell.
“Am I irritated there is so much talk of Capello? If I am to leave, then Inter will look to whoever they think is the right man for the job and that has nothing to do with me. I just hope, in case I do go, that I leave behind a positive memory of my time at Inter.”
However, Mancio remains the proud figure who often rallied against the system during his career, both as a player and a Coach, so he turned his attention towards the growing match-fixing allegations surrounding the sport.
“Everyone made fun of us. We have to wait and see what happens, but nobody expected the situation to be so very serious. There are 40 million football fans in Italy and we’ve all been taken for a ride for years. In the light of all this, the Coppa Italia we won is to be treasured. I won’t discuss our Serie A performance, as right now I don’t consider the Championship to be a regular one.”
Whatever the result of their meeting with Cagliari at the Stadio Sant’Elia on Sunday, Inter will finish third in the League table.

SEVEN PRIMAVERA PLAYERS WITH FIRST TEAM

MILAN - Besides Marco Andreolli, who has been with the first team since the start of the season, the following seven Primavera players have been called up to Roberto Mancini's squad for the final outing of the Serie A season at Cagliari.
Giacomo Bindi: goalkeeper, born in 1987
Leonardo Bonucci: defender, 1987
Nicolas Giani: defender 1986
Ilario Aloe: midfielder, 1986
Daniel Maa Boumsong: midfielder, 1987
Tjani Belaid: midfielder, 1987
Domenico Germinale: striker, 1987
With the exception of Ilario Aloe, all the above named players took part in last summer's pre-season training and the first team's tour of England, and played in the pre-season friendly matches.
Maa Boumsong and Belaid have already made their Serie A debuts for Inter. The Cameroonian midifelder was handed his first top-flight start in last Sunday's home match against Siena while the French-born Tunisian played in the last match of last season at home to Reggina.
Despite his age, goalkeeper Giacomo Bindi has been in pre-season training with the first team for the past three summers.
