CHELSEA CONFIRM CECH FRACTURE
Chelsea have confirmed that goalkeeper Petr Cech has had surgery on what has now been confirmed as a 'depressed fracture' to his skull.Cech was injured in the opening minutes of the champions' 1-0 win at Reading following a collision with Reading midfielder Stephen Hunt.
The club have now revealed the extent of Cech's injuries, which required an operation.
Cech's understudy Carlo Cudicini, who was also stretched off after colliding with Ibrahim Sonko, was
Ibrahim Sonko, was discharged from hospital.
"Chelsea Football Club can confirm that Petr Cech was transferred to the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford to the specialist neuro-surgical unit," read the Chelsea statement.
"He underwent surgery for a depressed fracture of the skull.
"The operation was successful but it is too early to give an accurate assessment of his condition.
"Naturally everybody at Chelsea wishes Petr, and Carlo Cudicini - who was discharged last night after being knocked unconscious - a speedy recovery from their injuries."
Jose Mourinho was less than happy with Hunt's challenge and the club have confirmed they will be contacting the Football Association about the incident.
"Chelsea FC has reviewed the video of both incidents. We endorse the post-match comments of Jose Mourinho regarding the seriousness of these incidents.
"Chelsea will be writing to the Football Association with our observations." 真陰公:(

:icon054: 嚇死人 .... 咁樣真係復出無期… Cech warned 'rushed return could be fatal'
Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has been warned a return to action too soon after an operation on his fractured skull could prove fatal.
The stark warning comes from Peter Hamlyn, consultant neuro-surgeon and director for centre of sports and exercise medicine at St Bartholomew's Hospital in London, writing in the Daily Telegraph.
Cech, 24, underwent surgery yesterday on the injury sustained in a collision with Reading's Stephen Hunt in Saturday's Premiership fixture at the Madejski Stadium.
Hamlyn wrote: 'If Petr Cech returns too soon from his head injury, the result could be fatal. :eek2:
'He risks what is known as `second impact syndrome'. This happens when a second blow causes swelling to the brain before it has recovered fully from an earlier injury. It is a situation that could prove fatal, even if the first blow is deemed not to be serious.
'With that in mind, I would think Cech is likely to be out for at least six months.
'That is about the length of time it takes for stout bone healing to take place. If the brain underlying the fracture has been greatly injured, his time out may be even longer.
'Luckily for him, skull fractures are not normally associated with severe injuries to the brain, which means we can anticipate Cech making a full recovery.'
Hunt's knee connected with Cech's head in the first minute of a game which also saw Chelsea losing replacement keeper Carlo Cudicini to concussion.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been highly critical of Hunt's challenge, claiming the player made no attempt to avoid contact and that he was even laughing afterwards.
He compared the incident to Ben Thatcher's forearm smash to the head of Portsmouth midfielder Pedro Mendes earlier this season which resulted in a lengthy ban for the Manchester City defender.
Reading goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann has insisted his team-mate had no intention of injuring Cech and that the collision was a bad accident.
'It's a difficult situation as a goalkeeper,' the American said.
'You go for the ball with your hands which in turn means your head is right there. Injuries happen every once in a while, it's kind of scary when you think about it.
'You can't really think about the consequences, you have to just react to the ball and just deal with everything after.
'Sometimes these things just happen and hopefully Petr Cech is going to be fine. I know he had surgery today, I know we're all thinking about it and hopefully he is going to be all right.
'Stephen must feel absolutely terrible. I know he by no means meant to hurt Petr Cech, he was just chasing down a long ball that just ended up running through. It was just over-exuberance really and the next thing we know there is a really bad collision.'
