Arsenal and Manchester United both kicked off their pre-season campaigns with convincing victories.

The Gunners beat North London neighbours Barnet 4-1 at Underhill, while United strolled to a 5-1 success at Clyde.

Alexander Hleb made his Arsenal bow and he marked it with a goal just two minutes as he cut inside the box and fired home.

Thierry Henry - donning the armband following Patrick Vieira's departure, slotted home a penalty, before Dennis Bergkamp and Justin Hoyte fired home.

After the interval the only goal came from the home side as Dean Sinclair grabbed a consolation.

At The Broadwood Stadium, United took slightly longer to get into their stride and were just 1-0 up at the interval thanks to Kleberson.

Into the second period, Paul Scholes and Ruud van Nistelrooy (penalty) scored, although Neil McGregor did grab one back for the home side.

United put an emphatic sheen on the score thanks to late strikes from van Nistelrooy and Liam Miller.

A near full strength Everton side were held to a goalless draw by SPL outfit Motherwell at Fir Park.

Tottenham began their Peace Cup campaign in South Korea with a 2-2 draw against Boca Juniors.

Marcelo Delgado fired the Argentinian club ahead just two minutes into the contest after he broke the offside trip.

Spurs soon found their feet and a brace of goals inside a four-minute spell had them in front. Firstly Jermain Defoe lashed home with Mido slotting in giving Martin Jol's side the lead.

Tottenham introduced the likes of Wayne Routledge and Tom Huddlestone into the fray, but they were powerless to prevent Daniel Bilos equalising with 20 minutes remaining.

West Ham backed up their opening victory in Sweden over Falkenbergs with a 3-0 success against Trollhattans IF.

Goals from Carl Fletcher, Bobby Zamora and Teddy Sheringham gave The Hammers a comfortable win.
