BMW dominates Curitiba Warm Up

It was an all-BMW top three during the warm-up at Curitiba today. Augusto Farfus Jr. was fastest ahead of his team mates Jörg Müller and Andy Priaulx. Farfus best time was 1:24.237 which was 0.104 seconds faster than Müller. Rickard Rydell was best non-BMW-driver in fourth place in his SEAT Léon. Best Chevrolet-driver was Robert Huff in fifth position, right ahead of his team mate Nicola Larini.

Pole-man Yvan Müller was sixth fastest, 0.045 seconds behind Farfus.

Stefano D'Aste crashed his BMW heavily with only a minute left of the session at the same place that Alain Menu crashed at yesterday. D'Aste was ok while his BMW needs a lot of work before the race.

Alain Menu did not take part in the warm up because of his high-speed accident yesterday during the qualifying. There is no word yet if he will make it to the race later today, stay tuned!

The warm-up was done in dry conditions with sun and a temperature of 23 degrees

Yvan Muller won the first race of 2008

Yvan Muller won the first World Touring Car Championship race of 2008. The Frenchman started from pole position and held the lead all the way. Team mate Rickard Rydell took second ahead of Augusto Farfus Jr. after a hard fight.
"This is the best way to start the season. The race was really tough and I had to be very focused to keep the cars behind me," said Muller.

It was not until the very last lap Rydell could get some space between him and Farfus.
"I am very happy to be back with SEAT and it was a great race. We showed our potential in qualifying, but now we have seen that the BMW's are much quicker in the race so people can stop speculate about that," said Rydell.

The Brazilian BMW-driver gained quickly on the two SEAT-cars in the top as the race progressed. Tarquini initially was third but was passed by both Farfus and Jörg Müller.

But neither Farfus nor Müller managed to get any further. Rydell used his superior diesel-power and managed to pull away on the straights. Instead Farfus had to watch his back as Jörg Müller got up along side him on the last lap. But the top four positions remained the same over the finish line with SEAT 1-2 and BMW 1-2.

"I am happy with third place. It was, as Yvan said, a hard race. The SEAT's are very fast on the straight, I hope we can fight back in the second race," said Farfus.

Chevrolet had a dark race with all three cars scoring zero points. Team mates Nicola Larini and Rob Huff managed to take each other out on lap three. Larini made a move on Huff but instead hit the Brit and both spun off. Larini retired on the spot while Huff retired a couple of laps later due to the sustained damage. Alain Menu retired due to technical problems.

Reigning champion Andy Priaulx finished fifth after a strong charge from twelfth on the starting grid.

Winning privateer was Pierre Yves Corthals ahead of Tielemans and D'Aste.

The second race of the day starts in two hours and then Félix Porteiro will start from pole position with Jordi Gené second and Gabriele Tarquni third.

TARQUINI ROUNDS OFF SEAT’S GREAT DAY

On the day of his 46th birthday Gabriele Tarquini made himself an outstanding present by winning the second race in Brazil and also got his payback for helping out his team-mates (Muller and Rydell) in the first race.He began from the second row, but as Tom Coronel and Félix Porteiro fell back, he surged through to the front. He held off a strong challenge from Porteiro, and then from the eventual second place position holder Andy Priaulx.

Tarquini took the lead at a start that saw Chevrolet's Robert Huff shunted off the track by another car on the first corner, the rear left suspension collapsed and he was unable to continue. With Nicola Larini and Alain Menu also finishing out of the points, it rounded off a bad weekend for Chevrolet.

Coronel did not have the pace to compete with the BMW and SEAT works cars and he fell back to an eventual ninth position. On the third lap he was overtaken by Jörg Müller, Yvan Muller and Rickard Rydell, then later by a charging Augusto Farfus.

Müller and Muller fought over fourth place, and the BMW Team Germany driver eventually came out on top, with the Frenchman behind him in fifth. Farfus battled past Rydell, and they finished sixth and seventh respectively, as Farfus could not find a way past Muller in the final laps. After his penalty from the earlier race Jordi Gené began the race in ninth, but moved ahead of Coronel to secure the final point.

On lap 9 Priaulx squeezed past Porteiro going into turn 1, and then chased after Tarquini. However, the Italian kept him at bay to take the chequered flag in his SEAT, ahead of three BMW drivers.

In the Independents' class Olivier Tielemans, who had won the first race due to a 30-second time penalty imposed to Corthals, triumphed again. He enjoyed a close battle with Alessandro Zanardi and eventually finished in fourteenth position overall.


其實成個禮拜 BMW 都快過 Seat ..
再賽多一過圈 Priaulx 一定 overtake 到 Tarquini

FARFUS EXCLUDED FROM RACE 1

Augusto Farfus, who had finished third in today’s first race was later excluded by the Stewards following a report from the FIA Technical Delegate.Farfus' car was excluded because of a technical breach, which consisted of the “V” support for the fixation of the engine protection not complying with the technical regulations.

However, the Stewards considered that there was no fraudolent intent from the team.

This decision results in one additional point for Gabriele Tarquini, who leaves Brazil as co-leader of the Drivers' Championship with his SEAT Sport team-mate Yvan Muller.

今年 Farfus 唔可以o係主場揚威黎慶祝自己小登科真係好可惜

seat 用 diesel engine 真係好唔 fair ..
race 1 好多個圈 farfus 明明入到直路已經隊到 rydell 個車尾實一實
就係副 diesel engine d extra power 一聲唔該又拉返開
搞到 BMWs 過極都過唔到
下下都埋到去又拉返開

lada 又唔係 factory team
我諗佢今年會連 d indy 都跑唔贏

有 set 到 ..
不過係係根據 Curitiba 呢一站既排位賽既記錄黎 set ..
所以呢一站依然係冇王管

Touring Car Bureau limits Turbo Pressure
The FIA Touring Car Bureau have issued a decision this morning to limit the supercharged air pressure and the fuel rail pressure on the SEAT León TDI cars. Both pressures have been limited to the average maximum values measured by the FIA data logger during yesterday's qualifying session.

BMW ready to go for victory in Australia

BMW Sauber are ready to go for victory in tomorrow's Australian Grand Prix after admitting they are closer to the top than they expected initially.

The German squad, third strongest in 2007, had a troubled start to the pre-season with their new car, with balance issues slowing down their progress.

The team, however, have made big progress since then and arrived in Melbourne with high hopes.

BMW's form was confirmed in qualifying today, with Robert Kubica lining up in second pace, only behind the McLaren of Lewis Hamilton. Teammate Nick Heidfeld qualified fifth.

BMW motorsport boss Theissen admits the team are closer than they had predicted, and he is adamant they will go for victory if they get the chance.

"I would be happy with a podium, of course, but we won't hold back. If there's a chance, we will take it," Theissen told reporters in Melbourne.

"I think we are reasonably strong in race trim. We had some good long runs. It all depends on the length of the first stint, (but) I have no idea. I mean, having gone through a season you can normally estimate, but not in the first race with new regulations."

Referring to his comments from Thursday in which he said BMW were targeting a win later in the season, he added: "Well, it is two days later already...

"We'll see. Apparently we are closer than we expected, at least here and today. I don't know when it will happen, but I'm really confident we can do it."

Theissen was also convinced that Kubica had been on pole if not for an error during his final flying lap.

"Absolutely. That (the error) was more than two tenths. It was really great how he managed to keep the car under control. It was possible, it was more than that," he said.
