Downloadable content

Additionally, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game will support downloadable tracks, including complete albums. Users can download the albums in their entirety or on a track-by-track basis.[41] The first of these will be Who's Next by The Who, which will be made available shortly after the game's release.[42] Other Metallica tracks spanning the band's entire career will be made available for download, as well.[43] All downloadable tracks will be playable within the Band World Tour career mode.[26]

Thus far, the following downloadable content has been announced:

    * "One" – Metallica[44]
    * An additional full album by Metallica[15]

On the downloadable content side, things are looking more positive. Already a source of frustration to 360 owners is the way Activision dropped the ball on the much ballyhooed flood of songs that Guitar Hero 2 was supposed to usher onto the 360. The flood was a trickle and many were wondering whether Harmonix had learned any lessons when their time came. While Drake wouldn't give any exact numbers, he did finally admit that they had songs already finished and ready to hit the online stores, so that players can get new content within days of purchasing of their game. He also said that owners of Rock Band in Europe can look forward to some localized content (attention Euro-Trash Music fans: Prepare your fake United Kingdom PSN account in advance), and that they were aware one of the reasons Guitar Freaks was still more popular in Asia than Guitar Hero was the abundance of J-Pop, which was something that might also get addressed in the future.
