發佈者: BB-Charles 2008/3/29 上午 05:15:00 Server Problems, Transfers, etc.
As you know, we've had the worst server problems in our history for the last 2-3 days. For the most part the site has not been down, but rather very slow; our server logs show that some people have been able to bid on players, set lineups, etc. but many others have not.
We think and hope that we have solved them with the addition of a second webserver and other optimization work, and the site has been stable for the last 24 hours, but we won't be completely confident that everything is working until after games are completed tomorrow. With that in mind, there have been two major effects of the downtime: people who have been unable to set lineups and players who sold below market value. When we first saw the downtime on Tuesday, we delayed transfers and stopped them from processing. On Wednesday, when our logs showed that the site had been operating smoothly for 8-10 hours (although in a period of lower load), we started them again, only to then see the problems return (at which point they were stopped and delayed). Since that last stoppage, our logs show that the site has been functioning properly.
We cannot replay games for people who did not set lineup. We obviously feel terrible about the whole situation, but there's nothing we can do to reset it without being unfair to the people who did submit lineups on time or who planned things out and set a default lineup. I'd definitely recommend that everybody set a default lineup, which is why it's an early piece of the checklist. But that doesn't mean anybody but us is at fault.
So, we're doing four things starting right now:
1) We've looked at our logs, and the transfers which are currently in the queue appear to have had full participation. They will be processed immediately and the queue restarted.
2) You will no longer be able to list a player for $0; you'll have to choose a minimum bid. I recommend as strongly as possible that you set a price you're willing to let the player go for, because the minimum bid is your protection against unplanned problems. We'll be implementing this in the next few hours.
3) We have been working for the past couple of weeks on a transfer comparison system. It's not ready yet, but we expect to have it ready for internal testing in the next week or two. As soon as this system is done, we are going to re-evaluate transfers from the past couple of days and see if any of them are very underpriced. If so, we're going to correct them by adding money to the seller (but we will not take any money away from the buyer) so that the seller will have been given a fair price. We are doing this now, but we do not expect to do it again - in the future, we expect that you'll set a minimum bid price where if the player sells for that price, you will be satisfied.
4) As much as this solves some of the problems from the past couple of days, we all feel absolutely horrible that you've been unable to enjoy BuzzerBeater during that time. As a way of apologizing, we'd like to give everybody two weeks of free supporter. If you already have supporter, we will extend the supporter you currently have. We're going to turn this in the next few days, but we are waiting until we are certain that the website is stable again before adding additional load, and once that's done, we're going to be turning on the supporter features for the entire community as our way of thanking you for your patience these past couple of days. |
