The BBs have been spending much of our time over the past several months working on a redesign of the entire site. In this new design, we’ve changed almost every piece of code we have (front-end and back-end alike). We've also added a number of new features, including forum signatures, additional statistics, new overview pages, NT press blogs, and much more! Because of all of the new code, the site needs a lot of testing. The most difficult thing for us to make the new site capable of handling 4000+ players are online at the same time. It will eventually be able to, but only after we test it over an extended period of time, slowly bumping up the number of people who use it.
Since the new site shares our database with the old site, certain types of bugs in the new site might take down both versions. So, we're going to slowly encourage an increasing number people to use the new site, and it might be taken down without warning if it misbehaves and put back up again when the scaling problems are fixed. For now, we are limiting the load by allowing all supporters to login to the new site. One of the features of the new site is that most pages work when logged-out, so those will be available to everybody. As soon as we can expand the load on the new site we will do so, but for the moment, those who are paying to support development of the game are being given the first opportunity, even if one could argue that it's stupid for us to take our buggiest code and give it to our paying customers.
There is a thread in BB Global (English) on the new site including answers to some frequently-asked questions. The GMs and LAs have been helping us to track down as many bugs as possible, but you will definitely still encounter bugs. Please let us know when you run across one and we'll try to patch it. The new site is also currently a bit more compatible with Firefox than some other browsers, something we'll continue to work on. We intend to keep developing the site after its release and add additional features, but for the moment development of new website features is going to be nearly frozen until the new site is fully debugged and released.
Under most browsers, the cookies in the new site are currently incompatible with cookies in the old site. Therefore, if you currently use buzzerbeater.com, you should access the new site at new.buzzerbeater.org and if you currently use www2.buzzerbeater.org, you should access the new site at new.buzzerbeater.com. Please note the endings of .org and .com. If you don't follow this advice, you might find yourself locked out of both sites until you clear all BB cookies in your browser.
We really hope you enjoy what we've done with the new site and look forward to hearing what you think!
