It is the chest size.
On conversion:
1 inch = 2.54 cm
so....
40 inches = (40 x 2.54) cm
                = 101.60 cm thus roughly 102cm

it means the chest size is 40 inches / 102 cm. It's nothing to deal with the length of the shirt.

通常指胸咋...係對換呎碼...唔係人人都用吋, 或人人都用公分架嘛....



Good example above:
46 inches = (46 x 2.54) cm = 116.84cm = rounded up to 117cm
48 inches = (48 x 2.54) cm =121.92cm = rounded up to 122cm

46 inches = unstretched chest size.
48 inches = stretched chest size.

assuming the shirt is a bit elastic.
