From Detroit Free Press:
To all of the Pistons fans hoping to see more of Darko Milicic this
season: You might as well give up.
Even after an energetic 2 1/2 -hour practice Monday that coach Larry
Brown judged Milicic's best ever, Milicic's stock didn't go up much.
"He's not going to play," Brown said. "He's not ready to play."
Instead, the Pistons' big-man rotation this season likely will consist
of starters Rasheed Wallace and Ben Wallace, with Antonio McDyess as the
first off the bench. After that, Brown gave the nod to Elden Campbell,
leaving veteran Derrick Coleman out in the cold.
"We're not going to go with five big guys," Brown said. "We're not going
to play like that. You never know with fouls or injuries how that
impacts it, but we've got McDyess to be the first big guy off the bench,
and he's going to play starters' minutes. And Elden came in in the best
shape he's been in and has really just earned the right, right now."
Brown is still waiting for Milicic to earn the right to play more.
Though Milicic played decently in spurts in Sunday's 76-70 exhibition
loss to Minnesota, his five points, three rebounds, three assists, two
blocks and a steal in 25 minutes didn't much impress Brown. Afterward,
he called Milicic "a deer in the headlights," a phrase he has used to
describe Milicic more than once since the 19-year-old became Pistons
property as the second pick in the 2003 draft. |
