Ventola returns to Italy

Nicola Ventola has left Crystal Palace to return to Italy with Atalanta.

Ventola endured a frustrating time at Palace last term with injury after arriving in the summer from Internazionale.

The 28-year-old was restricted to just three substitute appearances during his time at Palace.

Palace have decided to let the former Bologna man to leave on a free transfer as they prepare for life in The Championship.

It is second time Ventola has joined Atalanta after spending a season on loan at the Bergamo club in 2000/2001.

Ventola has signed a two-year deal with the relegated club and they hope he can spearhead a promotion charge back to Serie A next term.
