Here we go again:
Bramble body blow
The defensive options open to manager Graeme Souness diminished on Tuesday - and it wasn't because we'd sold anyone....
A training ground injury sustained by Titus Bramble saw the defender taken to hospital to have an elbow fracture cast - an injury that could sideline him for anything up to three months.
With the recent departures of Andy O'Brien and Aaron Hughes, Souness will doubtless now step up his bid to add defensive recruits to his squad, but in the short term has Steven Taylor and Peter Ramage available to partner Jean-Alain Boumsong.
United were forced to rely on Robbie Elliott as an emergency centre back at the end of last season when Bramble limped off in Lisbon and Taylor then damaged an ankle in training.
And the injury may yet see a lightning promotion of Academy central defender Paul Huntington to the Intertoto squad as cover - the England U18 international signed his first professional contract with United only last month.
While thinking that we're just fated, the Bramble news does beg the question - why exactly did we sell utility defender Aaron Hughes ?
