Exclusive Moore The Merrier!
CRAIG Moore described himself as "really delighted" after completing his move to Newcastle United.
The 29-year-old Australian skipper signed a two-year deal with the Magpies at St. James' Park on Friday night after passing his medical.
The centre-back, who has been a free agent since leaving Borussia Moenchengladbach at the end of last season, has joined too late to play any part in United's Intertoto Cup campaign.
But Moore - who has previously had two successful spells with Glasgow Rangers and a short stint at Crystal Palace sandwiched in between - is looking forward to testing himself in the Premiership.
In an exclusive Newcastle World TV interview, he said: "I've watched the Premiership for many years and it's always been a place where I would like to play. I'm really delighted to be given this opportunity.
"I finished my time in Germany, my family didn't really settle there and we were always looking to try to get back to the UK.
"There was a bit of contact over the summer when I was playing in the Confederations Cup with my national team and it progressed from there.
"I don't feel as if I'm an old player, I think 29 is a good age. It's an extremely tough league but one I'm really looking forward to playing in - I think there's plenty football left in me yet and I'm really looking forward to a great challenge.
"Nothing has been guaranteed. I still have to come in and work hard for my place as you would at any club. If I can help out some of the younger players here then that will hopefully be good for them and the club in general.
"You talk to any player now and the league they are all watching is the Premiership. It's very entertaining and end-to-end."
Moore's arrival strengthens the Rangers old boy contingent at St. James' which includes manager Graeme Souness and Jean-Alain Boumsong, who last season formed a defensive partnership with the Aussie at Ibrox before switching to the Magpies in January.
United's new boy - who will wear the squad number 18 - added: "It makes it a little bit easier knowing someone, and Boum is a fantastic player.
"I believe he's already had a massive impact down here and it will be nice to catch up with him again. So far, I haven't had a chance to speak to him yet."
Moore's time at Moenchengladbach resulted in some unflattering allegations being made when he parted company with the Bundesliga outfit.
However, he put the record straight by telling Newcastle World TV: "Those stories were completely false. I left the club on a Thursday, I ended my contract which I always had an option to do, and said I was going to do that two months prior.
"The statements that have come out I couldn't really believe. It's totally false."
Now Moore, whose only previous playing experience at St. James' Park was losing a FA Cup Third Round tie with Palace in January 1999, is hoping to add to his medal haul on Tyneside, saying: "Every footballer wants to win trophies and I am no different.
"Newcastle United are striving to do that and I hope we can be successful."
