Reds monitor Granqvist

UEFA Champions League holders Liverpool have renewed their interest in Helsingborgs star Andreas Granqvist.

The young central defender caught the attention of Liverpool and a number of Dutch clubs last year, but The Reds sent their scout to watch the Sweden Under-21 international in Helsingborgs's 2-0 win against Djurgardens on Monday.

PSV Eindhoven have long been tipped to table a bid for Granqvist, but Rafa Benitez might plan to hijack their bid.

"It is flattering and inspiring," Granqvist told Expressen.

"I heard [about the scout] afterwards. But I don't know about any serious interest.

"It's obvious that you always want to move on with your career, but I am not in a hurry.

"It's going well at Helsingborgs and we are fighting for the title."

Liverpool are on the search for a new centre back to provide cover for Jamie Carragher and Sami Hyypia.

Gers bring in Rodriguez

Rangers boss Alex McLeish has raided Ligue 1 again to snap up Monaco defender Julien Rodriguez.

McLeish has already brought Jose-Karl Pierre-Fanfan and Danny N'Guessan over from France this summer and has now added Rodriguez to his squad.

Reports of Rangers' interest in the 27-year-old emerged earlier this week and that has quickly been firmed up by the Scottish champions.

Rodriguez was purportedly offered a four-year contract by The Gers, although no details of the fee or length of deal have been disclosed.

In enticing Rodriguez to Ibrox, Rangers have fended off competition from Portsmouth and CSKA Moscow for the centre half.

It had appeared that Rangers would have to wait to conclude the signing of Rodriguez after Monaco revealed they would not sanction his exit until after their UEFA Champions League qualifier with Real Betis.

Instead, Rodriguez will be playing for Rangers in Europe's elite competition and could feature in next week's third round, first leg qualifier against Anorthosis Famagusta.
