Cos Resigns As Alavés Coach
Chuchi Cos has resigned as coach of La Primera strugglers Alavés following the team's defeat against Real Zaragoza at the weekend left them adrift at the foot of the table.
After announcing that he would quit as the trainer, Cos revealed that he believes that the team will benefit under a new man and is not leaving because he could not handle the pressure.
"I had a meeting with the president and, although he did not want me to step down, it was the only possible change and we came to the conclusion that it was the best thing to do," he explained.
"I do not think that I am leaving because I am a coward, but because I believe that it is for the best after analysing it in the cold light of day."
Cos will become the club's technical secretary and his assistant, Juan Carlos Oliva, will take over as coach of the first team squad with immediate effect.
The Vitoria-based club's president Dmitri Piterman replaced Cos in June with Rafael Monfort, but then had a change of heart six weeks later and sacked the new arrival to reinstall the man that had overseen Alavés' promotion back to the top flight last season.
