老費: 古比士利上任令取勝更艱難
Sir Alex Ferguson admits the appointment of Alan Curbishley as West Ham manager will make United's task even harder in this weekend's tricky trip to Upton Park.
The former Charlton boss replaced Alan Pardew earlier this week, and Sir Alex expects the Hammers' players to up their performance levels to impress their new gaffer.
You can now watch Sir Alex's full pre-match press conference on MUTV Online now.
"You're always wondering how the effect will be in the dressing room when a team loses its manager," he told his weekly press conference. "Going down there I think we sort of expected it to be a bit more difficult in terms of their players' energy and desire to impress the new manager coming in.
"Now we know it's Alan I think it will be harder - no doubt about that. But that's a good thing for us, we've no illusions there now. We know it's going to be difficult. We've lost two leagues there in our time and we know it's a hard place to go but our record's fairly good there."
With United five points clear at the top of the table and in superb form away from home, however, the Boss is confident his players can rise above the game's circumstances to take another three points.
"It'll not be easy and I expect a difficult game, but I've got to trust the players and let them carry on," he said. "They've been doing fantastic, they're getting extra things out of themselves.
"I think the only area in which we can improve is putting away chances, particularly away from home. I think we've got to realise that we're making the away games harder if we're not taking our chances, and hopefully we can start taking them. If we do then it gives us a better chance."
Amid constant claims from Stamford Bridge that Chelsea are improving and will push United for the title this season, Sir Alex claims he is just delighted not to be adrift of the reigning champions at Christmas - as has been the case over the last two campaigns.
"I'd rather pay attention to our own team, because I think we're doing everything right," he said. "I'd have been delighted even if we'd been two points behind Chelsea at this moment in time because I know we're going in the right direction, and I know we've an outstanding chance this year."
In response to John Terry's claims that the Blues could reach another level this season, he quipped: "It could be another level, they could get worse!"
