Hoeness warns Ferguson
Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeness has once again insisted that Manchester United target Owen Hargreaves is not for sale, and warned the North West club against making comments to the media.
"We have made our position quite clear: Owen is not for sale at the moment," he said at the start of his side's training camp in Dubai. "That's why there are no discussions ongoing.
"I understand [Sir] Alex [Ferguson], because I know him well and admire him. But in such important matters it won't do any good to put pressure on us via the media. Only personal discussions will help, but they have been put on ice for the moment," he added.
Recent English press reports have linked United with a 30 million euro bid for the dynamic midfielder, though Hoeness revealed his club have so far received "no official offer."
"All these figures that are being bandied about are speculation, and they have absolutely no basis. For that reason, I won't have anything to do with them."
Hargreaves has gone public on his desire to join the Premiership leaders several times, though Bayern have so far refused to submit to his pleas for a transfer, largely due to the fact he signed a new deal in October 2005 to tie him to the club until 2010.
President Franz Beckenbauer underlined his club's stance on the matter, though admitted the club could be swayed should United table a significant offer.
"It's perfectly justified to deny a transfer to a player who has just extended his contract, just because another club wants to pay him more," he told Bild.
"But should this alleged 30 million euro offer actually be tabled, then we would have to think about it. With this sum of money, we could certainly do one or two things in the transfer market."
