Reggina sell Leon to Genoa Tuesday 16 January, 2007

Reggina’s survival hopes have seemingly been hit after they surprisingly sold Julio Cesar Dailey Leon to Genoa.

The Rossoblu finalised the transfer during intense talks overnight and will pay the southern club £2m for the Honduran.

Coach Gian Piero Gasperini had recently asked for the side to be strengthened ahead of their Serie A promotion bid and Leon – who has shone in the top flight this term – will aid the outfit.

The 27-year-old landed at Reggio Calabria in 2001 and he spent the next two campaigns at the Granillo.

He then joined Fiorentina for a brief spell, before playing for Sambenedettese, Catanzaro, Serie C side Teramo and Avellino.

He then returned to Reggina last summer and had scored two goals in 16 matches during the first half of this season.

The southerners have now allegedly targeted Luca Vigiani of Livorno as a possible replacement for Leon.

Former Reggina hero Francesco Cozza, now performing at Siena, is another man linked with the minnows.

In other news, Sampdoria have netted goalkeeper Carlo Zotti on loan from Roma. They also have an option to buy outright in the summer.
