Atletico lining up £7million Everton swoop
Atletico Madrid are lining up a swoop for Everton Football Club star Mikel Arteta.
The midfielder has been in great form for the Toffees this season, and it was a surprise to many that he was excluded from the Spain squad to face England on Wednesday evening.
Although the 24-year-old is more than happy at Goodison Park, he has also expressed an opinion that he is being overlooked for international honours because he is not playing for a so-called ‘bigger club’.
Atletico are believed to be lining up a bid to take the player to the Vicente Calderon in the summer, and will guarantee him a stronger platform to win a place in the national squad.

Arteta opens door to Atletico
Mikel Arteta has outlined his desire to return to Spain, but insists he is happy at Everton and will not look to force a move from Goodison Park.
Atletico Madrid, who came close to signing the elegant midfielder before he joined Rangers in 2002, are known to be monitoring Arteta, with Spanish sources claiming that director Miguel Angel Gil Marin met the player after Saturday's Merseyside derby.
The Spaniards view the 24-year-old as the ideal candidate to inject some creativity into an improving if largely workmanlike side and are being tipped to launch a major offensive for him come the summer.
Arteta, who came through Barcelona's youth ranks, concedes he is drawn by the prospect of a return to his homeland, but was equally quick to pay tribute to current employers Everton.
"I would like to return to Spain," he told Cadena SER. "It is something that will always be there, but I have to find the right moment and the ideal club.
"If somebody wants me, they will have to talk to Everton.
"I am very happy here, they have treated me very well."
However, Atletico - who sit fifth in La Liga this term - are a club with which Arteta is well-acquainted given their previous interest in him and the midfielder admitted to being impressed at the strides made by the Spanish club in recent times.
"It's true that I was on the verge of going, I have friends there like Fernando Torres with whom I have played for Spain's youth teams and we have always got on well," he continued.
"It's a great club that seems to have a project for the future, that is performing better every year and it's normal that they are already thinking about new players."

The Everton midfielder’s fine form this season has seen him linked with several La Liga clubs in recent weeks.
Atletico Madrid are the latest to show an interest in the 24-year-old, with reports in Spain suggesting Arteta met with Atletico director Miguel Gil Marin after last Saturday’s Merseyside derby.
And Atletico are ready to tempt Arteta by making an £8million bid for the player in the summer.
