Carbone eyes Adelaide move

ADELAIDE - Former Sydney FC striker Benito Carbone has revealed he is keen on making a return to the A-League with AFC Champions League side Adelaide United.
The 35-year-old Italian, who enjoyed spells in England with Sheffield Wednesday, Bradford, Aston Villa, Derby and Middlesbrough, joined Sydney on a four-game contract last year.
During his third outing, however, the former Internazionale frontman pulled a hamstring and was ruled out for seven weeks.
Carbone failed to reach an agreement for a long-term deal to extend his stay following the injury, despite scoring and creating two goals on his debut against Adelaide at the Hindmarsh Stadium in October.
"I know a lot of people in Adelaide," the journeyman told the The Adelaide Advertiser.
“Although I only spent limited time there it was a wonderful experience for me. A lot of the people who I met originated from the same region where I was born.
“There was an instant attraction to Adelaide which made me feel very welcome. That's (contract) something to be discussed with my agent.
“I just want to play with a good club with good people. I can see that with Adelaide."
Carbone recalled fond memories of Sydney’s 4-1 victory against Adelaide, while also adding he has been keeping an eye on Adelaide's progress and is confident of securing a move back to the A-League.
“It was a great experience," he said. "After the match I was honoured with the amount of Adelaide supporters who liked what happened on the field.
"I got to know Angelo Costanzo and (Ross) Aloisi who I have a lot of respect for in Adelaide. Angelo, he's such a great person. He's also an exceptional player and we get on really well.
"I know that (Aurelio) Vidmar is the new coach. I have a lot of respect for him through his time in Europe.
"The club has been in preliminary talks with my agent and I'm hoping to secure something concrete with Adelaide."
