UEFA warn Inter: Zero tolerance Tuesday 13 March, 2007

UEFA spokesman William Gaillard has confirmed that Inter and Valencia face “zero tolerance” after their Mestalla brawl.
“We want zero tolerance. If we do not consider ourselves satisfied with the verdict, we can always take it to an appeal,” explained Gaillard on Sky Italia television.
Unconfirmed reports in the Italian media today claim that Nicolas Burdisso, Douglas Maicon and Valencia’s Carlos Marchena are facing a four-month ban in all competition.
Ivan Cordoba could be suspended for two months, while David Navarro – the substitute who fractured Burdisso’s nose with a punch – risks a 10-month absence.
The Nerazzurri hoped that Valencia’s provocation will be taken into consideration, but UEFA do not seem intent on giving them any leeway.
“Players are examples for young people and fans to look up to. If their behaviour on the field is not exemplary, then that will have strong repercussions off the field and we cannot accept that,” continued the UEFA spokesman.
“So it will be zero tolerance. If we at UEFA are not satisfied, we can always lodge an appeal.”
The Disciplinary Commission will make its decision in Nyon on Wednesday morning and UEFA director Gianni Infantino was similarly harsh in his warning to Inter.
“The commission will make its decisions, because clearly this is not behaviour we can accept on a football field,” added Infantino. |
