Trophy welcomed to Hong Kong

The UEFA Champions League trophy is in Hong Kong this weekend as part of a six-week Asian tour to celebrate Europe's premier club competition.
Prized trophy
European football's most prestigious club trophy, which has already visited Tokyo, Japan and Jakarta, Indonesia, is touring Asia for the first time as part of the UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour - presented by sponsor Heineken - and will be in Hong Kong from Friday until Sunday. The trophy will then move on to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia, 22-25 March), Bangkok (Thailand, 30 March-1 April) and Pattaya (Thailand, 6-8 April).
City centre display
The trophy will be the centrepiece of a display in the city centre - giving local fans the opportunity to find out more about the tournament and be pictured with the trophy. In Hong Kong during the 2005/06 season, there were more than 170 hours of coverage, with 115 UEFA Champions League broadcasts on local television - including live (46), delayed (13), highlights (25) and magazine programmes (31).
Accessible to fans
"By creating initiatives like the UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour, we are making the UEFA Champions League experience more accessible to local football supporters and enabling them to share the magic of Europe's best club competition," explained Michele Centenaro, UEFA's head of club competitions. "It builds on the UEFA Champions Gallery and UEFA Young Champions tournament to bring fans across the world closer to the passion and excitement of our competition."
