Manchester United could be set to splash out a staggering £25 million in an attempt to sign Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov from Premiership Rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Berbatov has had a fantastic season for Spurs since signing from Bayer Leverkusen during the summer. The Bulgarian has scored an impressive 19 goals in 38 appearances for the London based side which has attracted the attention of clubs across Europe.
The News of the World claim that Sir Alex Ferguson has been alerted that Berbatov is unhappy with his contract at Spurs and is preparing to make a swoop for the prolific striker. Spurs have slapped a £40 million price tag on the strikers head in a bid to deter any potential bidders however a bid of around £25 million may be too good to turn down.

Middlesbrough defender Jonathan Woodgate wants to scupper talk of a dream FA Cup final between United and Chelsea at Wembley.
Monday's semi-final draw kept the Premiership's top two apart, although the Blues must overcome Tottenham and United have to navigate Woodgate's Boro in quarter-final replays.
The England defender said: "Why has our chance gone? I don't think it has. There is no reason we cannot go down to Manchester and get a victory. We have been there before and done it, so why not again?
"It is going to be hard because United are one of the best teams in Europe, but we are more than capable of doing it on the day, as we have shown against some of the better sides in the top half of the table."
Boro can boast an impressive record at Old Trafford. United have only notched one win in the Teesiders' last five Premiership visits to Manchester.
"We have no cause to be frightened of any team and our record against United over the last few years proves they are only human," said Woodgate.
"We have got a lot of big-game players, people who have taken part in big matches over the course of their careers, and we will back ourselves to do it again."
The Premiership may be United’s main priority and the Champions League is often cited as European football’s holy grail, but Wayne Rooney is determined to make up for losing to Arsenal on penalties in the 2005 FA Cup final by winning the competition this season.
The 21-year-old striker put United in front against Middlesbrough in the quarter final clash at the Riverside on Saturday, but Cristiano Ronaldo had to rescue the tie from the spot after the Reds conceded goals either side of half-time.
Sir Alex’s side are in the pot for today's semi final draw, but first must overcome a replay against Boro on Monday at Old Trafford, with Rooney determined to finish off the job.
“Obviously, we'd liked to have gone straight through, but the main thing is that we’re still in the draw,” he told MUTV. “It was disappointing to lose goals just before and just after half time, but it’s a difficult place to come to get a result so we’re pleased that, having gone behind, we fought back.”
It means two games in three days at OT – with Bolton visiting on Saturday in the league – but Rooney is not daunted by the number of potentially season-defining games on the horizon.
“We’re all professionals and we have to keep going," he said. "I don't think [the extra game] is a problem and I’d like to play every game.
“We've got home advantage and we’re confident of beating anyone coming to Old Trafford. It’s getting towards the end of the season and everyone is thinking about finals and hopefully winning the league. I’m the same.
“It was a bad feeling losing to Arsenal. If we can get to the final again then I’m sure if we have that many chances again, we’ll take them.”
