Switzerland 2, Jamaica 0
March 22, 2007
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- Marco Streller and Gokhan Inler scored during a four-minute span early in the game to give Switzerland a 2-0 victory over Jamaica in an international exhibition Thursday night.
Switzerland wasted little time in testing Jamaica goalkeeper Richard McCallum, who was making his second appearance with the national team.
Streller gave Switzerland a 1-0 lead with his goal in the 7th minute. Streller converted on Gokhan Inler's cross from the right wing and beat McCallum with a shot near the 6-yard box.
Switzerland's constant pressure resulted in a second goal in the 11th minute, when Inler converted on a 15-yard shot after receiving Tranquillo Barnetta's corner kick from the right wing.
Switzerland will conclude its two-match set of South Florida exhibitions when it plays Colombia on Sunday at the Orange Bowl in Miami.
McCallum and Streller collided violently while pursuing a loose ball in the 18th minute. Both players briefly stayed on the ground and were tended by trainers. McCallum, who was called for a foul and received a yellow card for his infraction, leaped and deflected Ludovic Magnin's 20-yard free kick.
Jamaica will return home for an exhibition match against Panama on Monday.
