Livorno to free Lucarelli
Livorno chief Aldo Spinelli has confirmed that he is ready to wave goodbye to club captain Cristiano Lucarelli.
The striker declared on Thursday that he was preparing to leave the Tuscan outfit, after again clashing with the President following the dismissal of Coach Daniele Arrigoni in favour of Fernando Orsi this week.
“I cannot block him and if he wants to leave this club then he can go,” said Spinelli on Friday afternoon.
“He has a £6.4m rescission clause and if there is a club willing to pay that price then I will honour our deal and let him leave.
“In January Palermo were interested in Lucarelli, but they didn’t want to pay enough. Obviously I would be sorry to see him go as I would like him to stay until 2010.”
Spinelli criticised Lucarelli after the 4-0 loss at Udinese when he accused the Italian of having too much influence within the camp.
“It is logical that I consider him responsible when things don’t go well,” continued Spinelli. “He is the captain and represents the team.
“We were humiliated in Udine and my reaction was a normal one.”
