Raimond van der Gouw retires at the end of the current season. The goalkeeper of second divisionist AGOVV Apeldoorn will become the new goalie-trainer at this club.
Van der Gouw, who turned 44 last week, at that moment left it uncertain if he would yet stretch his career with one extra year. A couple of days later however, he announced his retirement from professional football.
His long career took him to clubs like Go Ahaed Eagles, Vitesse Arnhem, Manchester United, West ham United and RKC Waalwijk. At United he used to be the stand-in for Peter Schmeichel. In the 1999/2000 season he kept Marc Bosnich on the bench and played 22 matches for United. He was benched again when Fabien Barthez came to Old Trafford. |
