Giggs ready to do battle

Ryan Giggs is well aware that old friend Mark Hughes will provide United with a stiff challenge this weekend as his Blackburn Rovers visit Old Trafford.
Having played with Hughes at both domestic and international level and featured in Sparky's reign as Wales manager, Giggs knows United are always in for a battle against one of the former Reds striker's teams.
"Sparky's sides are well organised, hard working and they'll make it difficult for you," Giggs told Manchester United Radio.
"In the first half of the season they weren't getting the results, but since the turn of the year they've changed it around and they've won a lot of games.
"They're on a good run at the moment, they were unbeaten in a lot of games so we know it's going to be difficult, it always is."
Giggs is full of admiration for the way his former team-mate has built a Blackburn team in his own image and subsequently pushed to evolve it.
"When Sparky took over he made sure that they had that competitive edge to them," he said

McCarthy dreams of double

Blackburn striker Benni McCarthy is hoping to beat United twice before the season ends - in the Premiership this Saturday and again in the FA Cup final. The Reds take on Mark Hughes' side at Old Trafford as United get back to league duties following the international break. And McCarthy is looking forward to what he hopes will be the first of two matches against the team he supported as a boy before the end of the season. "I think United will win the league this year," he told United Review. "Playing them at Old Trafford is about as difficult as it gets in the Premiership. But Blackburn have done well against United under Mark Hughes so we’ll look to continue that." The second meeting would be in the FA Cup final at Wembley. The South African international scored the decisive goal when Rovers upset Arsenal in the fifth round. Now he wants to complete Blackburn's cup quest by conquering two of his manager's (and boyhood idol) Hughes' old clubs, Chelsea and then United. "Everybody is excited about the semi-final," admits McCarthy. "It doesn't matter that we'll face Chelsea, we're playing to win. We know it will be tough, but it's a one-off game and we're genuinely confident of reaching Wembley. We knocked Arsenal out and have enjoyed a really good run in the Cup. "When I was a kid in South Africa, I always dreamed of playing in an FA Cup final at Wembley. Now that the stadium is open it could come true - and it might be against Manchester United. I've always said that dreams can come true..." McCarthy is the featured opposition player in United Review, on sale at Old Trafford on Saturday. Neville still three weeks away

Gary Neville faces a further three weeks on the sidelines as he continues his recovery from ankle ligament damage.

The Reds' skipper hobbled off after just ten minutes of United's Premiership victory over Bolton two weeks ago.

He was expected to be back in time for the trip to Portsmouth on Easter Saturday, but Sir Alex Ferguson has since confirmed that Neville will be out for a while longer yet.

"The swelling has only just gone down on his ankle so the injury was maybe a bit worse than we thought in terms of the swelling," the boss told Manchester United Radio.

"But he's been doing some good work in the gym and I expect him to be back in the first team in three weeks time."

There was, however, some better news on the injury front with Edwin van der Sar and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer both fit to return against Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Ankle victim Darren Fletcher is also on the mend and is likely to be in action within two weeks.

"Edwin and Ole are both fit and their experience will be vital for us during this last period of the season," insisted Sir Alex. "Darren Fletcher has been training very well. He's moved on to football training now having regained full fitness which is terrific.

"The original prognosis wasn't great but he's doing very well now and we expect him to be back in two weeks."
