Latics appoint Hutchings

Wigan Athletic have named Chris Hutchings as their new manager following Paul Jewell's decision to end his six-year stay with the club.
Hutchings had been Jewell's assistant at the JJB Stadium and spent a brief but unsuccessful period in charge of Bradford City at the start of the 2000-01 campaign.
Jewell appears to be in no rush to return to football management after deciding to leave the Latics.
The former Bradford City and Sheffield Wednesday boss took on the manager's job at the JJB Stadium in June 2001 when the club were in the third tier of English football and guided them to two promotions.
Sunday's dramatic 2-1 victory at Sheffield United ensured that the Latics would be playing in the Premiership for a third successive season, but Jewell has had enough.
He told the club's official website: "I've made this decision with a heavy heart, but I feel it's time for me to have a break from football.
"I've given everything I have as a person to bringing success here over the past six years and it's not an easy thing to walk away from somewhere and something which has been such a part of your life for so long.
"The intensity of football at the highest level, although completely addictive, is also very draining, and I feel I'd be kidding the chairman, my players and the supporters if I was to carry on without being able to put in the energy and dedication I know is required to be successful at this level.
"Wigan Athletic is a fantastic club that I'm convinced can go on to establish themselves in the Barclays Premiership for years to come, and my decision does not change anything of that because all the foundations are in place."
Chairman Dave Whelan added: "It was with great reluctance that I accepted Paul's resignation.
"It was his decision to leave. I believe Paul was the right man to carry this club forward, but he's decided that he's taken the club as far as he can and has left it for someone else to take over.
"I have to respect his decision because what Paul has done for this club is extraordinary. He's transformed it from top to bottom and given us the most successful era in our history.
"I for one will always be grateful for the job he's done here, will always hold him in the utmost regard and I wish him all the best in the future." |
