It seems that Valencia will face stiff competition for the signing of German international goal-keeper Timo Hildebrand, whom they are lining up as a long term replacement for Santi Canizares.
As the transfer merry go round gets started, Hildebrand looks set for the biggest contract of his career.
The German international keeper will leave probable Bundesliga champions Stuttgart at the end of the season, and there is no shortage of teams in the hunt for his signing. Valencia, Milan and Real Madrid are the clubs linked to the 28-year-old.
As the season in Germany reaches its exciting conclusion, Hildebrand’s performances are becoming ever more impressive. Most recently, his last minute save at the weekend against Bochum went a long way towards sending Stuttgart on their way to their 5th Bundesliga title.
"I want to leave Stuttgart, but win the title before I leave." said Hildebrand. His last game for Stuttgart will be the German Cup final against Nurenberg on 26th May, but his destination after is still unclear.
Until recently Valencia had been the most likely destination, but it seems they now face competition for his signature. According to reports in the ‘Stuttgarter Zeitung’ AC Milan are in the hunt.
The Italian champion’s league finalists are no longer happy with their Brazilian keeper Dida after a number of recent errors. Milan, however, aren’t be making too many noises regarding Hildebrand as they won’t want to unsettle Dida before the clash with Liverpool.
Real Madrid are also being mentioned as a possible destination, though any possible move to the Bernabeu will depend heavily on the coaching situation at Madrid. Bernd Schüster, who is being touted as a possible successor to Fabio Capello, is a confirmed fan of Hildebrand.
His advisor Dusan Bukovac will take his time to peruse all the options before he and his client make any choices. But one thing is clear, Timo is not letting this speculation affect his performances at the moment. With a famous League and Cup double just two games away, he better not!
