Neil Warnock's has left his job as Sheffield United manager following the club's last day relegation from the Premiership.
Warnock had been mulling over his future at Bramall Lane, with Blades officials apparently willing to give him time to make a decision.
Warnock has called time on his Blades tenure having expressed his unhappiness with the club's latest new contract offer prior to Sunday's defeat to Wigan.
Had Warnock kept his side in the Premiership he would have been offered a reported £750,000 deal, making him the lowest paid top-flight boss. That figure was reduced to around £450,000 after relegation.
And with a group of his carefully-nurtured stars such as Phil Jagielka now likely to head for the exit doors, Warnock believed the time had come to end his reign.
Blades assistant boss Stuart McCall gave a strong indication that Warnock may follow Paul Jewell's example in a radio interview yesterday.
McCall, who is very close to Warnock, had told TalkSport: 'We'll see what happens but it wouldn't surprise me if that was the gaffer's last game in charge.' |
