Redknapp closes on Bramble
Titus Bramble is poised to strike a deal with Portsmouth, after Fratton Park chief Harry Redknapp claimed he is a 'good free transfer'.
Former Ipswich Town stopper Bramble was shown the door by Newcastle after failing to fulfil his potential on Tyneside.
Although his progress on Tyneside was hindered by a series of blunders, a number of managers hold the 25-year-old in high regard.
Reports have stated Bramble held talks with Celtic last week, but is more likely to head for Fratton Park.
Redknapp claims Pompey will bring in some 'exciting players' and Bramble could be the first of his recruits.
"Titus is a good free transfer," Redknapp told the Daily Star.
"We are looking to strengthen the squad and we have some exciting players lined up."

Distin plumps for Pompey
Portsmouth have completed the signing of Sylvain Distin on a free transfer.
The French defender elected not to extend his stay at Manchester City when his contract expired at the end of the season, and he has now pitched up on the South Coast on a three-year deal.
Distin's former club Newcastle were thought to be fellow suitors of the classy central defender, but Pompey boss Harry Redknapp has been at his convincing best to secure one of summer's best free transfers.
City were desperate to keep the player at Eastlands but Distin spoke of a desire for a fresh challenge and it is Portsmouth that have won the race for his signature.
Distin rejected a contract offer from City which would have reportedly made him the club's best ever paid player.
