Livorno lock down Lucarelli
Livorno President Aldo Spinelli assures that Cristiano Lucarelli and Coach Nando Orsi will stay at the Stadio Picchi.
The future of the Amaranto hitman has been in the balance for several months, as a row with the hardcore fans prompted him to announce his departure in the summer.
“Lucarelli is staying at Livorno,” Spinelli told Teleradiostereo today. “I am sorry for the Presidents who dream of getting him, but we intend to keep a tight grip on him.”
“It is no coincidence that, along with a support striker, we are looking to sign a centre-forward who can act as his back-up.”
The Tuscan club had increased rumours over Lucarelli’s future after picking up Fabio Bazzani from Sampdoria on a free transfer.
However, the deal has collapsed after a protest from the Livorno Ultras, complaining that Bazzani had ‘connections’ to their rival Bologna group known as the Mods.
“It is a shame, but with the current situation we have no choice but to release him from his contract as per his request,” added Spinelli.
Someone who has won over the fans is Coach Orsi, who seems set to remain after leading them to safety in the final rounds of the campaign, replacing the sacked Daniele Arrigoni.
“Orsi convinced me, because he is a great professional and comes out of a school that I really appreciate, having worked under both Sven Goran Eriksson and Roberto Mancini. I am convinced he will do very well.”
The rest of the Livorno squad lives in uncertainty, as the President has warned of massive changes and was not afraid to name names.
“Sami Kuffour was a terrible signing. He is still a good player, but motivation is crucial and he really had none with us. In future I won’t bring in anyone on loan if I’m not certain they want to be here.
“As for Marco Amelia, next week should be the decisive meeting. We are discussing an exchange with Federico Agliardi. Other players could be included in the deal, so we have to wait on Palermo’s response.
“Stefano Morrone has received several offers, above all from Palermo, but despite what the newspapers say Fiorentina have never requested his services,” continued Spinelli.
“We have an excellent rapport with Roma. They have some talented youngsters like Aleandro Rosi and Ricardo Faty that could be of interest to us. We’ll see how the market evolves.”
